A permanent Trainee SPMT Operator role, based in Avonmouth Docks, Bristol/various UK locations.

Your new role
 
As the Trainee SPMT Operator, you will be a key member of the Osprey team and be responsible for following direction from SPMT Operators to ensure assets and other equipment are being operated in line with produced engineering and Osprey processes. Working as part of the team of operators on the SPMTs (Self Propelled Modular Trailers) you will be responsible for the full life cycle of activities involved in these operations such as, working safely as part of a team, setting up, inspecting and operating the SPMTs. You will be issued a defined SPMT Trainee programme with an allocated mentor who shall work with you to achieve milestones in your training programme. 
 
The Trainee SPMT Operator is accountable for:
  • Supporting Operational Delivery – ensuring that all operations are carried out in a safe and effective manner by following the Osprey Way of Working.
  • Site Relationships – developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Osprey colleagues and supporting client conversations when required. 
  • Development of SPMT Expertise – develop your understanding of SPMT operations through both on-site operations (to include performing basic maintenance, inspections etc.) and off-site study. You will also be involved in pre-operation planning and may be required to provide advice and support to SPMT Supervisors, Project Managers and/or Project Engineers through all stages of a project.
  • Professional Development – as a trainee, and as part of the heavy lift team, you are accountable for ensuring you engage and complete all professional development and training, as required, to support the development of your knowledge and capability in this role.
 
What you’ll need to succeed
 
The successful candidate will have:
 
Essential
  • Circa 2 years’ experience either on SPMTs or similar. 
  • UK Driving Licence, CSCS card and CPCS card – Slinger/Signaller minimum.
  • Experience of working in a heavy lift operations environment, ideally within Renewables/Oil & Gas, Civils and Port
  • Knowledge of rigging, lashing and be able to perform basic rigging duties.
  • Basic understating of maintenance and repair work.
  • Experience of adjusting trailers to ensure equal load is spread throughout all axels and can adjust to suit the terrain. 
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships, enjoy working as part of the team/be a strong team player, and able to liaise with site management and project managers.
  • Follow and perform the correct use of manual handling. 
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Flexibility with hours of work and location throughout the UK. 
 
Desirable
  • Previous experience working on SPMTs or any other heavy lift equipment/operations.
  • Basic knowledge working in renewables, oil, gas, civil and port environments.
  • Basic maintenance and repair knowledge and be able to understand and interpret transport arrangements and rigging plans.
  • An awareness of rigging and lashing duties.
