A permanent Installations Operator role, based in Avonmouth Docks, Bristol. This role will likely see you spend most of your time in Avonmouth and the Southwest, but occasional travel may be required to fulfil the responsibilities and duties of the role.

Your new role
 
The Installations Operator will be a key member of the Osprey team and be responsible for the execution of onsite operations using assets and other equipment, in line with produced engineering and Osprey processes. Working as part of the team of operatives on the Installations Team you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of activities involved in these operations such as, working safely as part of a team, setting up, inspecting and operating the necessary installation equipment.
 
The Installations Operator is accountable for:

Equipment expertise
  • Operation of 4-point lift systems (mega-lift, lift-n-lock, telescopic) up to 1000t capacity.
  • Operation of hydraulic jacking systems such as cartridge tower systems and climbing jacks. This would include bottle jacks, pancake jacks and other regular type jacking equipment.
  • Operation of skidding using conventional skid systems – jack & skid (strand jack skidding/ pulling/ launching).
  • Operation of other types of installation equipment (telehandler, counterbalance, MEWP).

Operational delivery
  • Ensuring site activities are conducted in alignment with Osprey standards and procedures as well as working to define RAMS and lift plans produced by engineers. Responsible to ensure the crane allocated to you is operated in a safe manner as directed by the manufacturer and LOLER.
 
Industry Knowledge
  • Following industry best practice, sharing training and learning with others and being aware of legislation and regulations applicable to all tasks conducted as part of this role. Provide feedback to Project Managers, Engineers and line managers on learning and best practice.

Other Role Responsibilities
  • Must direct and supervise the setup of installations equipment as per the RAMS.
  • Must be capable of interpreting the Risk Assessment and associated drawings.
  • Ensure PPE is worn at all appropriate times.
  • Conversant with the correct use of lifting equipment and aware they should be used on level ground.
  • Perform the correct use of manual handling i.e. climbing timbers.
  • Liaise with project manager/engineer on general project scope.
  • Be able to resist pressures from other people to carry out unsafe operations.
  • Able to assimilate and apply information contained in manufacturers’ guidelines relating to the range of duties and safe use of installation equipment.
  • Able to take action to avoid dangerous situations, including stopping operations.
  • Familiar with general rigging, setup and maintenance procedures of installation equipment.
  • Continually seek to improve how the role operates within the business to achieve its objectives.
 
As part of your role, you will be required to carry out the following activities:
  • General working at height

  • Working near / on water
  • Carrying out manual handling activities

Osprey shall ensure you have the necessary training to carry out the above tasks in a safe manner.
 
Ability to assist with other activities which occur within the Heavy Lift Division of Osprey:
  • General Slinger Signaller activities
  • General SPMT activities
  • Assist with load in / out of equipment to transport
  • General activities which occur within the Heavy Lift yard.
 
What you’ll need to succeed
 
The successful candidate will have, or experience of:
 
Essential
  • A minimum 5 years of experience 
  • 5 GCSEs or similar qualifications which must include English and Maths
  • CPCS Blue Card – Supervisor 
  • CPCS Blue Card – Slinger Signaller 
  • UK driving licence 
  • Working as part of a team 
  • Working in a client-facing or customer service role
  • 4-point lift systems (Mega-lift, Lift-n-Lock, Telescopic) up to 1000t capacity
  • Bottle jacks, pancake jacks and other regular-type jacking equipment
  • Skidding using conventional skid systems – Jack & Skid (stand jack skidding/ pulling/launching is a bonus)
  • Working in a port environment 
  • Working in civil Infrastructure, oil & gas, renewables, railway, nuclear

  • Experience with hydraulic jacking systems such as cartridge tower systems and climbing jacks

  • Experience with other types of installation equipment; turntables
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act and LEEA approved codes of practice
  • Testing and inspection criteria
  • Planned maintenance activities.
