Position Title: Young Persons Co-ordinator

Reports To: People and Culture Manager

Managing: this role has no direct management responsibility

Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow

Salary: £28,500 (FTE)

Hours of work: 28 hours perweek

Contract type: Fixed term for 2 years with funding being sought to extend. 

Job Purpose 

 As our Young Persons’ Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in developing and managing our groundbreaking new paid internship programme and creating opportunities for care experienced young people to engage meaningfully with Clan’s work standing with children and young people when they stand up for their rights. You will inspire and empower young people, helping them gain valuable skills and experiences that will benefit their future careers and personal growth.

Main activities 

Internship Programme Development:

Design, implement, and manage a dynamic paid internship programme that offers young people valuable hands-on work experience in work supporting children and young people’s rights. 

Collaborate across teams to identify exciting work experience opportunities and create roles that challenge and inspire.

Develop engaging training materials and orientation sessions to set interns up for success.

Monitor and celebrate the progress of interns, providing constructive feedback and unwavering support.

Engagement Opportunities:

Create and manage a variety of engaging activities and events that encourage young people to get involved in our work.

Build strong relationships with local schools, colleges, universities and third sector organisations to promote our programmes.

Organise engagement activities that ignite curiosity and build support for this work.

Mentorship and Support:

Be a mentor and guide for interns and young participants, offering encouragement and advice every step of the way.

Address any challenges or concerns for interns, working to find solutions.

Facilitate regular check-ins and feedback sessions to ensure a positive and enriching experience for all participants.

Administration and Reporting:

Maintain detailed records of all internship and engagement activities, celebrating successes and identifying areas for improvement.

Prepare insightful reports on the progress and outcomes of the programmes.

Assist in the development of funding proposals and reports to support the growth and sustainability of our initiatives.

Person Specification:  

Experience

Demonstrable experience in programme development, youth engagement, or a similar role.

Experience in creating and managing internship programmes in the third sector or similar initiatives.

Experience in organising activities and events that engage young people.

Experience in developing and conducting engagement sessions.

Skills and Competencies

Ability to design, implement, and manage programmes efficiently.

Strong skills in planning, executing, and overseeing projects.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire young people.

Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.

Proven ability to work alongside young people providing guidance and support.

Creative and solutions-focused approach to addressing challenges.

Ability to work effectively within, and across teams

Other Requirements:

Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends as required.

Ability to be in the office when interns are. 

 Ability to travel throughout Scotland as required.
