Based at Queenswood Country Park, Dinmore, Hereford and working on nature reserves across Herefordshire.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to start a career in UK wildlife conservation.

As part of a team of trainees you will assist in reserve management across a variety of habitats including heathlands, woodlands and wetlands. The role will involve habitat management using a variety of tools, installing and repairing reserve infrastructure such as boardwalks and bird hides and supervising volunteers in a variety of tasks.

A structured training program is offered with the opportunity to tailor training towards individual aims. Trainees will gain nationally-recognised qualifications in first aid, chainsaw & brush-cutter operation and maintenance with the opportunity to train for other certifications in related countryside management skills.

This is a rolling programme and we will be regularly recruiting for trainees to start in April each year.

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (HWT) is one of the 46 Wildlife Trusts and is the leading wildlife charity in Herefordshire. We are dedicated to protecting the special wildlife in Herefordshire and encouraging people to enjoy, care for and act for nature.  We own and manage nearly 60 Nature Reserves across the county and have over 7,000 members and we are assisted in all elements of our work by over 200 fantastic volunteers.

Our Vision for Wildlife aims to place nature’s recovery at the forefront of tackling the climate emergency - for wildlife itself, for the natural services it provides and for everyone’s wellbeing.
We manage our Trust Reserves to demonstrate best practice in land management, to maximize conservation benefits for the priority county species and habitats, to integrate Reserves into larger ecological networks and to support the work of the Living Landscape projects and Nature Recovery Networks. Grant-funded projects on or connected to our Nature Reserves that help us achieve these aims are a key element of this work under our 2023-26 Strategy.

We’re Wild About Inclusion.  To us, this means inspiring, empowering and engaging people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities, to change the natural world for the better.  It also means cultivating inclusive workspaces that are free from discrimination, where differences are valued, everyone can be themselves and flourish, just like nature!

Are you passionate about protecting wildlife and conserving natural habitats?
