The Survey Technician is responsible for the preparation, testing, maintenance, mobilisation, and offshore operation of a wide range of survey, positioning, and subsea sensor equipment.

This role supports both onshore workshop activities and offshore project execution, ensuring equipment reliability, data integrity, and compliance with industry standards.

They will possess strong technical background, excellent problem‑solving capabilities, and the adaptability to work in both controlled workshop environments and dynamic offshore conditions.

Onshore / Base Responsibilities
  • Prepare, test, calibrate, and maintain survey and subsea equipment
(E.G; USBL, INS, FLS/MBES Sonars, Cameras, Oceanographic Sensors, Data Acquisition Systems).
  • Perform equipment fault finding, diagnostics, and component-level repairs where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate workshop records, calibration logs, and asset management documentation.
  • Support equipment mobilisation and demobilisation for offshore projects and vessel operations.
  • Configure equipment to project specifications, including firmware updates, software setup, and interface testing.
  • Ensure all equipment complies with internal quality systems, manufacturer requirements, and client specifications.
  • Assist with goods-in inspections, inventory control, and workshop housekeeping.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, coordinators, and offshore supervisors to ensure technical readiness.
Form part of the Global Technical Support on call team

Offshore Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and operate survey and positioning equipment on Vessels, Offshore Platforms, ROVs, and Subsea Systems.
  • Support real-time data acquisition, monitoring, and troubleshooting during offshore operations.
  • Communicate effectively with client personnel and STR throughout deployment.
(Reporting, Updates, Fault Reports)
  • Act as a technical point of contact for onboard teams, clients, and subsea contractors.
  • Perform operational checks and preventative maintenance to ensure continuous system reliability.
  • Assist in mobilising and demobilising survey spreads, including sensor mounting and cable management.
  • Maintain daily technical logs, equipment status reports, and data quality documentation.
Work safely and adhere to offshore regulations, permit-to-work systems, client and company Quality and HSE requirements.

Desired Qualifications & Educational Requirements:
Technical qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Electrical, Electronics or Engineering Discipline or a minimum of 5 years work experience in a similar role.
 
Valid offshore certification (or ability to obtain), such as: 
  • BOSIET / FOET
  • OGUK / OEUK Medical
  • CA-EBS
  • HUET
  • GWO
 
Valid Travel Documentation
  • UK Driving License
  • Passport
  • Seamen’s Book / Card

Job Knowledge & Experience:
  • Working knowledge of electronic engineering principles, techniques, and practices.
  • Excellent fault-finding, diagnostics, and technical repair skills.
  • Experience with oceanographic, geophysical, positioning equipment
  • (For Example: Edgetech, Sonardyne, Exail, Teledyne, Valeport, Kongsberg, R2 Sonic, Innova). 
  • Previous offshore experience in Offshore Survey or ROV operations.
  • Ability to test, integrate, operate and maintain survey equipment as part of an offshore survey team.
