Hours: 12hrs p.w.

Location: This role requires to be on campus for the majority of the hours worked; these can be negotiated with the Line Manager

Purpose of the role

The Students’ Association for the Highlands and Islands is a membership-led organisation and its primary purpose is to be the recognised representative of students to the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). To do this effectively, it is crucial that the student voice of our members is strong and heard by the institutions.

The main purpose of this role is to support the functions of the Students’ Association. The role holder should make themselves available to students and be an advocate for enhancing the student experience. This individual needs to be a team player but equally able to work under their own direction; the role is varied, ranging from delivering presentations, providing administrative support, speaking to students and staff alike and potentially organising or supporting the delivery of Association campaigns or supporting students to lead on their own ideas.
Being student-led is integral to what we do, this role will be responsible for gathering, analysing and presenting student feedback to either the Students’ Association or the Academic Partner.

It is imperative that the role holder undertakes these duties within the office, unless otherwise agreed, as occasionally they may be the sole staff member within the office.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide support to the Officers and Students’ Association staff within the Academic Partner, undertaking any duties as directed by them.
2. Be accessible to students to understand their issues and priorities and ensure services remain relevant to their needs.
3. Actively engage students through conversations, campaigns and events; present ideas on how to improve student engagement and where these are agreed, coordinate the activity, including planning and evaluation.
4. Deliver key activities throughout the year including Freshers, induction, Student Voice Rep training; empower Student Voice Reps and leaders of clubs and societies.
5. Continuously work to improve the student experience.
6. Where possible and permitted, represent the student voice on any relevant committees or task groups.
