Job Title: Sports Centre Duty Officer

Location: Sports Centre Area Specific - required to work at different sites

Birmingham:

Salary: £10.50 - £12.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours: Evenings and Weekends availability – flexibility required
Reports to: Sports Centre Manager

We are proud to partner with 20 Schools, hiring out over 160 different facilities for local community use including a variety of our own sessions ranging from Football development sessions to Nerf Gun and Bouncy Castle Birthday Party Packages to Holiday Camps in the half term holidays. We also manage the smooth running of 7 successful School Community gyms. Purpose of the Role:

The Sports Centre Duty Officer (previously known as Leisure Attendant) is responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day running of the Sports Centre during their shift. This includes supervising hirers and members of the public, ensuring health and safety standards are upheld, managing bookings, and providing excellent customer service.

This is a hands-on role requiring confidence, professionalism, and the ability to problem-solve quickly while maintaining a welcoming environment. Duty Officers also play a key role in supporting sessions, parties and holiday programmes, ensuring smooth transitions between bookings, maintaining site presentation, and supporting community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Operations & Safety

· Act as Duty Officer on shift, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the leisure centre.

· Open and close facilities, ensuring the site is safe, secure, and ready for use.

· Supervise public access and ensure safe, effective use of facilities.

· Carry out basic site maintenance, equipment checks, and safety inspections.

· Monitor use of all facilities at the venue (pitches, sports halls, gyms etc) and communal areas; report issues promptly.

· Ensure health and safety procedures are followed, including first aid and emergency actions.

· Complete daily checklists and accurate handovers to the Sports Centre Manager.

Customer Service & Bookings

· Provide excellent customer service to hirers, parents, participants, and visitors.

· Manage enquiries and bookings via phone, email, and booking systems where required.

· Charge admissions, process payments, and issue receipts.

· Liaise with hirers to ensure smooth transitions between sessions and bookings.

· Support the smooth running of birthday parties, holiday camps, and community sessions.

· Handle feedback or complaints professionally, escalating where appropriate.

Administration & Finance

· Maintain registers for P&E Sports Sessions where applicable.

· Record attendance, bookings, and participation data accurately.

· Manage cash and card handling during shifts, ensuring financial accuracy.

· Balance and report weekly cash tins in line with company procedures.

Cleaning & Site Standards

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation across all areas of the site.

· Set up and pack down equipment for sessions, matches, or events.

· Ensure all areas are safe, tidy, and welcoming at all times.

Other Duties

· Support with marketing and promotion (posters, noticeboards, social media updates as directed).

· Attend staff meetings, training, and development sessions as required.

· Carry out any other tasks as reasonably required by the company to ensure smooth operations.

Person Specification:

Essential:

· Experience working in a sports, leisure, or customer service environment.

· Strong communication and organisational skills.

· Excellent customer service with a friendly, approachable manner.

· Patience, sensitivity, and ability to remain calm under pressure.

· Flexible with working hours (evenings, weekends, holidays, bank holidays).

· Confident in handling customer issues and problem-solving.

· IT literate (booking/membership systems, basic admin).

First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training).

Desirable:

· Previous Duty Officer/Leisure Attendant or supervisory experience.

· Safeguarding qualification.

· Coaching or delivery experience in sports/youth settings.

· Driving licence (desirable but not essential).

· Willingness to learn and develop — all training provided.
