The Lodge Trust CIO is a Christian charity based in the village of Market Overton, Rutland. We provide supported living, residential care, day opportunities, and work-based activities for adults with learning disabilities.

Our 20-acre rural site includes residential homes, workshops, a café, gardens, woodland, and a camping and caravan site. Rooted in Christian values of compassion, respect, and kindness, we are committed to creating a welcoming community where people are valued, encouraged, and empowered to live life to the full.

About the Role

We are seeking a Site Maintenance Worker to help maintain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment across our unique rural site.

This is a hands-on role involving a wide range of general maintenance, repairs, safety checks, and grounds-related tasks. You will work both independently and as part of a small team, supporting the day-to-day operation of the site while being mindful of the needs of adults with learning disabilities who live and work here.

Your work will directly contribute to residents’ wellbeing, staff effectiveness, and the overall presentation and stewardship of The Lodge Trust site.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Repairs

  • Carry out general maintenance and repair tasks across buildings and outdoor areas.
  • Respond to reactive and break-fix maintenance issues, diagnosing faults and completing repairs where possible.
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules and checklists.
  • Identify emerging maintenance issues and take proactive steps to prevent deterioration or risk.
  • Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and responsibly.

2. Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Work in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, COSHH, fire safety, food safety, and other statutory requirements.
  • Carry out routine safety and fire safety checks and maintain accurate records.
  • Report hazards, defects, or safeguarding concerns promptly and appropriately.

3. Contractors & External Services

  • Liaise with approved external contractors working on site.
  • Ensure contractors comply with site procedures and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Monitor contractor work and report any issues to the Facilities Manager.

4. Grounds, Environment & Sustainability

  • Maintain site storage areas to a safe and organised standard.
  • Support seasonal tasks such as gritting, leaf clearance, and weather-related site safety.
  • Promote environmentally responsible maintenance practices where possible.

5. Resident-Centred Working
  • Work respectfully and sensitively in environments supporting adults with learning disabilities.
  • Respect residents’ privacy, dignity, and personal space at all times.
  • Adapt working practices to minimise disruption and support a calm, positive environment.

6. On-Call & Emergency Response
  • Participate in an on-call rota for maintenance-related emergencies outside normal working hours.

  • Clear communication skills and a team-focused approach.
  • Respectful, reliable, and professional, with good awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work in line with the Christian ethos and values of The Lodge Trust.

Desirable

  • Vocational qualification or apprenticeship in a maintenance or trade-related discipline (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds).
  • Experience working in a care, residential, education, or supported living setting.
  • Experience of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine safety checks.
