We are seeking a Senior Analyst and/or Economist to support research projects and media campaigns across the organisation. This is a senior quantitative role for someone who can combine rigorous analysis with editorial judgement, policy imagination and clear communication. The successful candidate will help the CSJ produce original, high-impact analysis that shapes national debate, informs policy design and supports our mission to transform the lives of people on the lowest incomes. 

The role will sit within the CSJ’s Data & Analysis Unit, but the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across research, policy, media and senior external stakeholders.

This is a role for someone who can move from raw data to a front-page finding, from a statistical release to a policy recommendation, and from a complex model to a clear briefing for ministers, parliamentarians, and officials.

·       Desk research from official, expert, industry, academic, international and other sources

·       Designing/undertaking field research from focus groups, structured interviews and polling scripts

·       Analysing published and raw datasets to identify both new issues and fresh analytic approaches

·       Data-harvesting/cleaning from Government datasets to develop tools

·       Producing graphs and tables and drafting/tailoring messages to inform policy and media

·       Advising Parliamentarians, colleagues and stakeholders on a range of matters across the CSJ’s work

·       Helping to upskill Researchers and other members of the CSJ team, building on best practices

·       Generating of dynamic charts, maps and other graphical outputs for the website

Desirable attributes:

·       Experience of analysing individual-level microdata using statistical software packages e.g. Python, R or Stata, and analysing policy using tax and benefit microsimulation or other models

·       Awareness of public-restricted and open-source data from national and international bodies

·       Track record of handling large public and private data in primary surveys or secondary analytics  

·       Strong MS Excel skills and ability to build-in sense/proof-checks in a sequential way

·       Aptitude for analysing large datasets in MS Excel, R, Python, C++, Ruby or other packages  

·       Knowledge of Government standard statistical packages such as SAS, Stata, SPSS and others

·       Expertise on web-interactive visualisation apps like R/RShiny, Power BI, QGIS, My Maps, Tableau etc.
