Overall job purpose


The Refugee Involvement Coordinator will lead the development and delivery of Scottish Refugee Council’s refugee involvement framework. The role will build the foundations for meaningful and safe involvement, strengthen staff skills and organisational systems, support co‑design and co‑production projects, and guide learning and evaluation. This work will ensure lived experience insight is embedded across our services, policy and public influence. This is an organisational change and system-building role.

Key responsibilities


1.     Organisational Development.

 
  • Establish organisational capacity for refugee involvement and lead the rollout of involvement practices across SRC
  •  Build organisational capability to apply co-design principles consistently across programmes and provide refresher co‑design training for all staff.
  • Develop core systems, including policies, processes, and resources that enable meaningful involvement.
  •  Produce a Co‑Design Toolkit, including templates, checklists and examples of best practice.
  • Support early pilot projects to test and refine co‑design and co‑production approaches.

2.     Co-Design Delivery

 
  • Coordinate 2–3 organisational projects to follow a full co‑design or co‑production model.
  • Support and grow a community of practice to share learning, strengthen consistency and embed inclusive involvement. 
  • Test and refine policies, systems and guidance based on real‑world application.
  •  Identify and support experienced involvement mentors from lived experience communities.
 

3.     Learning & Evaluation 

 
  •  Lead evaluation of involvement work, capturing learning and feedback from participants and staff.
  • Work closely with the Impact and Improvement Manager to integrate lived experience learning into organisational evaluation and improvement systems.
  •  An initial mapping of current knowledge and experience in lived experience engagement across SRC and among external partners and organisations. 
  • Produce reports and recommendations to inform future phases of refugee involvement.
  • Contribute to future strategic planning related to participation and lived experience leadership.
 

4.     Stakeholder Engagement

 
  •  Work collaboratively across teams to embed lived experience insight into services, policy and public engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with refugee community organisations and leaders.
  •  Facilitate inclusive group spaces, forums and workshops that enable peer leadership and shared learning.
  • Ensure all involvement practice reflects cultural humility, anti‑racist approaches, safety, accessibility and trauma‑informed principles.
  •  Undertake general organisational duties, reporting, and out‑of‑hours work where required

 Other Duties


  •  Support the implementation of Scottish Refugee Council’s Refugee Involvement Policy across the organisation to ensure refugee participation and involvement at all levels.
  • Develop skills and undertake responsibilities which fulfil the purpose of the role and support the success of the organisation.
  • Provide regular reports including work plans, as required 
  • Undertake any other appropriate duties as requested; and,
  • Occasionally work out of hours as requested.
