About the Service

This role is to offer support as part of a team from the resource centres in Annan, Dumfries and Castle Douglas and Employability Support Project in Dumfries.

The Resource Centre buildings are based in Annan, Dumfries, and Castle Douglas.

As part of a total of 5 centres across Dumfries and Galloway, they offer safe places for people affected by serious mental illnesses to meet, take part a variety of activities to develop social and recreational skills, access support and connect to their communities. Support offered includes working on personal development plans to focus on meaningful personal outcomes.

The Employability Service is based in Dumfries. 

In this role you will support service users to achieve their identified goals by facilitating structured group and one-to-one activities that allow those taking part to improve existing employability skills as well as develop new ones

 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to an environment where people can relax, re-establish social skills and enhance their quality of life.

  •  Work directly with people we support who require immediate or on going emotional, practical or vocational support to deliver their best possible outcomes. 

  • Helping people we support to develop and review their personal plans that are meaningful to them and can draw on their experience and skills.

  •  Identify opportunities for development of the options available using the available resources or through knowledge of other services and Health and Social Care Partnership.

  •  Establishing and maintaining professional approach and boundaries.

  • Working closely with other members of staff to achieve outcomes as defined with the line manager. Within the area team there is a clear line management structure which supports and shapes professional practices.   

 
 General Duties:

  • Act in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation legislation. Ensure all records, personal, staff and client data are managed in line with Data Management and Information Governance policies

  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements such as provisions set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

  • As with all employees, workers and volunteers; to encourage people to join Change Mental Health as a member, donor or activist

  • To act in accordance with the charity’s Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies and to notify your line manager promptly if there are any concerns 

  • To participate in regular supervision and appraisal and undertake any relevant training as appropriate to the role 

  • To support and enable our dedicated teams of volunteers in the delivery of the charity’s aims

  • To work in accordance with the charity’s national policies and local operating procedures and those of external regulators or professional bodies


Essential Criteria:

  • Educated to SVQ level 2 or have relevant experience working in health and social care

  • Understanding of Health and Social Care Standards

  • Confident at planning and prioritising an expected workload

  • Professional self-awareness and ability to seek support and advice from line management appropriately. 

  • Participate in supervision and support meetings positively

  •  Empathetic and confident supporting people one to one or in groups

  • Having a personal and professional value base that is consistent with the aims and objectives of Change Mental Health

  • Having a practice that is firmly based within person centred approach

  • Confident at being able to demonstrate genuine regard for people we support and their families 

  • Good I.T. skills and confident at producing accurate case notes 

  • Enthusiastic to develop knowledge and skills for the role


Successful applicants for this post will require a PVG Membership (this will be arranged by Change Mental Health before you start your role)

 
Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with people affected by mental illness

  • Experience of running groups in a community setting

  • Working knowledge of agencies in the region that support people affected by Mental Illnesses.

  • Driving licence
