Wrexham Tennis and Padel Centre, a charitable organisation, is the largest indoor tennis facility in Wales, and one of the largest in Great Britain. With 12 indoor and outdoor tennis courts, 3 covered padel courts, and several pickleball courts, our charity provides tennis, padel and pickleball opportunities for individuals across North Wales and beyond.
We are looking for a proven and experienced Programme Manager to be responsible for the successful running, development and management of our Tennis, Padel and Pickleball programmes. You will join our centre at a very exciting time; following a £2.5 million refurbishment including a £2million grant from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and the announcement of a brand new international tournament (the Lexus Wrexham Open), and with a renewed vision and strategy to ensure that we are regarded as a world class venue, with the local community at our heart.
Job Description:
The Programme Manager will be responsible for taking a strategic lead by developing and implementing a whole centre strategy for on court programme and community engagement. This will include the development and planned delivery of a coherent programme of Tennis, Padel and Pickleball activity in pursuit of agreed targets relating to our charitable mission, income generation, coach education, and community engagement. The post holder will work in close synergy with the relevant lead on the Board of Trustees who will provide ultimate oversight, advice and guidance.
The Programme Manager will have responsibility for budget management, ensuring optimum utilisation and participation rates, all elements of customer relationship management and the management of the centre’s team of coaches and volunteers. The Programme Manager will be responsible for creating player, coach and volunteer pathways and for modernising the total approach to coaching and development in order to achieve long-term success at our centre.
The Programme Manager will also be responsible for the development of new partnerships and securing additional funding streams, which will include retaining and hosting tournaments, and identifying and making successful applications for capital and revenue grants to various bodies including Tennis Wales and the LTA.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
● Drive forward the strategic vision for Tennis, Padel and Pickleball and deliver on agreed outcomes & objectives, reporting to the Board of Trustees
● Lead responsibility for setting expected standards of delivery by the coaching team
● Responsible for ensuring excellence in customer service to a wide range of users by regularly obtaining and responding to feedback in relation to agreed service standards and KPIs
Planning & Organising
● Develop a full programme of Tennis, Padel and Pickleball activity, in accordance with agreed strategic priorities, creating an appropriate balance of use between all users
● Be responsible for full profit and loss accountability for Tennis, Padel and Pickleball programmes and events
● Managing our current user database via Clubspark, and working with operational staff to ensure accuracy of registers, payments and user figures
● Develop and enhance the current tournament, competition and special event programme to optimise usage and enhance the reputation of the Centre
Relationship Management
● Working with a range of stakeholders, including developing a successful and long running partnership with Tennis Wales, Wrexham County Borough Council & the LTA
● Work in partnership with colleagues in facility operations to ensure the safe and efficient day to day running of the centre
● Lead on local partnerships, including with the local university, college, businesses, and local community groups
● Take a lead on building our offering in settings such as parks and schools, in order to drive growth in the local area and explore additional revenue
● Be responsible for communication with existing customers and key user groups within the facility, delegating to staff where required
Decision Making
● Exercise a high degree of autonomy in decision making in all aspects of Tennis, Padel and Pickleball delivery. Working to strategic aims on participation and income-generation, the post holder will be highly innovative in building centre-wide programmes for the benefit of all current and new users and the wider community
● Seek and develop opportunities relevant to the future of Tennis, Padel and Pickleball specifically relating to securing future income. This will include writing comprehensive and financially sound business cases and applications for funding
Continuous Improvement
● Participate in continuing professional development, keep abreast of industry changes and contribute to the development of a programme of services and facilities, ensuring that it is in line with current trends and meets the needs of the tennis community
● Monitor and assess the quality of service delivery in order to ensure that delivery is of the highest possible standard
● Be a role model for coaches, staff and others by demonstrating personal commitment to improving the wide offer at our centre
● Ensure progress in the full range of sport development including play at all levels and official and coach development
Workforce Development
● Provide professional leadership, direction and motivation to a team of coaches and volunteers.
● Implement a programme of CPD for all those delivering and supporting on the Tennis, Padel and Pickleball programmes
● Set coach behaviour standards and manage performance against these in a proactive and empathetic manner
● Ensure workforce adhere to all centre safeguarding standards ensuring best practice is maintained at all times.
● Monitor the coach development needs of the coaching workforce, identifying areas of potential development for individuals and the team as a whole
● Work with the Board of Trustees to recruit appropriate individuals into the team, and provide technical support and guidance within recruitment, HR matters and staffing

Knowledge and experience
| Experience of leading, managing and motivating a team to deliver an excellent service, within a sporting or leisure environment | Essential
| Experience of leading, managing and coordinating a successful development or sporting programme, with demonstrable experience of recruitment and retention of users | Essential
| Proven experience of maximising court utilisation, ensuring continued commercial viability | Essential
| Experience of developing and maintaining stakeholder relations with a wide range of stakeholders e.g. local authority, schools and universities, and others | Essential
| Experience of using data and insight to make informed decisions | Essential
| Experience of organising and delivering outreach programmes in schools, communities and other community settings | Essential
