Role Purpose
We require a Principal Electrical Systems Engineer to take the lead in the selection, evaluation and integration of electrical components used across our innovative battery, power conversion and control products targeted at a wide range of customer applications focussed on electrification. The successful candidate will define component‑level requirements, develop architectures and select components across high‑ and low‑voltage systems between batteries, vehicle systems, charging interfaces and internal power distribution units. They will ensure compatibility through analysis, simulation and supplier engagement, and take responsibility for the technical verification of the electrical system. They will liaise directly with suppliers and manufacturers and work with the wider multi‑disciplinary engineering team to support the delivery of effective engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Systems, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering teams to define requirements for electrical components and interfaces across HV and LV systems.
- Support the definition of HV and LV electrical system concepts including circuit interfaces, protection strategies, grounding/shielding approaches and communication bus connectivity.
- Lead the selection, evaluation and approval of electrical components including connectors, contactors, relays, fuses, sensors, safety devices and distribution hardware.
- Assess component compatibility with system‑level electrical architectures, ensuring correct electrical, thermal, environmental and EMC performance.
- Generate and maintain component specifications and interface definitions.
- Lead component‑level evaluation and verification activities
- Develop and maintain relationships with external suppliers of relevant components or technologies and manufacturers.
- Provide engineering support for procurement, prototype builds, system commissioning, fault finding and diagnosis.
- Contribute to electrical FMEA and hazard analysis activities.
- Work to company engineering standards, within change control and other processes, and create required project documentation to ensure necessary levels of design quality.
- Delivery of engineering tasks and reporting of progress and issues in line with project milestones.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical component selection, evaluation and integration within a relevant high‑reliability industry (e.g. automotive, EV, aerospace or industrial).
- Significant knowledge of general automotive and electrification technologies covering: o HV batteries, contactors, fuses, HVIL, PDUs o LV electrical systems, connectors, sensors, distribution hardware o Charging systems (AC/DC), vehicle interfaces and communication buses (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
- Strong experience in evaluating electrical component specifications and applying them to circuit and system designs.
- Sound knowledge of electrical principles, derating, thermal behaviour, EMC, insulation systems and environmental constraints.
- Experience of supplier engagement, component qualification and manufacturing considerations.
Preferred:
- A degree or similar in an electrical engineering discipline.
- Hands‑on skills in electrical assembly, harness/component build, crimping, soldering or test rig development.
- Experience in the design or evaluation of high‑voltage DC power distribution systems incorporating connectors, contactors, cables, fuses and busbars.
- Experience of system‑level design from concept to delivery, with a good understanding of electrical design requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Knowledge of hazardous voltage safe working practices and procedures.
System or Knowledge
- Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office and applications.
- Experience of electrical system CAD design software e.g. Arcadia, Solidworks Electrical, ePlan, Zuken or similar.

Location and Travel:
- You must be eligible to work in the UK or CZK and have no restrictions for world-wide travel.
- This role is based at our Head Office in Coventry, UK, or our engineering Office In Prague, Czechia, with flexibility for remote working.
- Working hours are 0900 to 1700, 5 days a week, however some travel is expected, and flexible working patterns are essential to the role.
