Role Purpose
We require a Principal EDS Engineer to take the lead in the development of electrical design and distribution for our range of innovative battery, power conversion and control products targeted at a wide range of customer applications focussed on electrification. The successful candidate will work to define the requirements of the electrical system, drive the selection of architectures and components through simulation and analysis, and take responsibility for the detailed design, manufacture and verification of the interconnect. They will liaise directly with suppliers and manufacturers and work with the wider multi-disciplinary engineering team to support the delivery of effective engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Systems and Electrical/Electronics Engineering teams and other stakeholders as required to define the requirements for electrical distribution systems, including those operating at high current or hazardous voltages
  • Design of electrical system concepts including architectures, circuit designs, harness routing and packaging proposals. ·       Generation of detailed electrical circuit wiring schematics and electrical BOMs.
  • Simulation of electrical circuits and fuse blow calculations to confirm robust design of all electrical circuits.
  • Generation of 2D harness and cable assembly manufacturing drawings.
  • Provide support and guidance for 3D harness routing and packaging alongside the Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Support in the delivery of electrical FMEA and electrical design verification activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external suppliers of relevant components or technologies and manufacturers. Support procurement and manufacturing activities.
  • Lead prototype builds and provide engineering support for system commissioning, fault finding and diagnosis.
  • Work to company engineering standards, within change control and other processes and create required project documentation to ensure necessary levels of design quality
  • Delivery of engineering tasks and reporting of progress and issues in line with project milestones.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in developing high- and low-voltage wiring harness and wider electrical system designs in a relevant high-reliability industry (e.g. automotive or aerospace).

    • LV electrical systems.
    • Connection systems, distribution, harnessing, cabling & data communication systems.
    • HV batteries, contactors, fuses, distribution, HVIL, PDUs
  • Significant Experience in HV and LV EDS development - specifically in circuit design, harness design, power distribution, selection of appropriate cables/fuses/connectors and electrical packaging/routing.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical principles, materials selection, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to evaluate relevant data contained within electrical component specifications and apply it to circuit designs.
Preferred:
  • A degree or similar in an electrical engineering discipline
  • Hands-on skills of harness/cable manufacture including crimping, soldering and formboarding to a professional standard
  • Design of high-voltage DC power distribution systems incorporating connectors, contactors, cables, fuses, etc. and internal high-current interconnects such as busbars to meet current carrying, thermal and environmental requirements.
  • Experience of system-level design from concept to delivery, with a good understanding of electrical design requirements and relevant industry standards.
  • Selection of electrical components based on key operating parameters (e.g. contactors, fuses, controllers, sensors)
  • Knowledge & experience of vehicle safe hazardous voltage working practices and procedures
System or Knowledge
