Person specification

We welcome Trustees from all walks of life and value the unique perspectives each person brings.

If you are a young parent or carer aged 25 or under, we consider you an expert by experience and you do not need to have additional expertise beyond that.

At the same time, we are particularly keen to hear from individuals who can bring knowledge and experience in the following areas, to help guide and strengthen our work over the next three years:

- Commercial sponsorship and brand partnerships / financial growth and sustainability
We’re excited to explore new ways to grow our reach and income through partnerships. A Trustee with experience here could help us unlock real potential

- Government policy, campaigning, and advocacy
We’re proud of our research-led approach to influencing policy and know how much our partners value this work. We’re looking to grow our impact in this area

- Environmental sustainability
We welcome experience and passion for environmental issues, especially those who understand how these intersect with family life and workplace culture

- Music industry
Our work in music is growing, and with new expertise on the team, we’re ready to deepen our focus. We’d welcome Trustees with insight into this vibrant sector

- Backstage or technical workforce
Backstage teams face some of the biggest challenges around flexibility. We’d love to bring their voices and experiences into our boardroom

All Board members should bring the following essential skills and values to the role:

Skills
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to persuade and influence to promote the interests of PiPA

- Good listening skills and an openness to other views and feedback on own contribution

- Ability to think differently, drawing on personal and professional expertise to come up with new ideas and challenge existing thinking

Values and ways of working
- Genuine alignment with PiPA’s mission and values to create better lives for all parents and carers in performing arts

- Commitment to bringing high standards of ethics and transparency to PiPA’s governance

- Commitment to dedicating the necessary time and attention to fulfil the responsibilities of PiPA trusteeship, including preparation for, and participation in, Board meetings, committees, and strategic initiatives

Applicants from all across the UK are welcome. We are a remote working organisation and our Board meets 2-3 times a year in-person.
