Role Summary
Cambridge United Football Club are offering Sports Therapy work placement opportunities for the 2026-27 football season. The successful candidate(s) will gain first-hand experience of working within an elite medical department at a professional level. The candidate(s) will work closely with the existing medical staff, supporting/assisting in the delivery of services to the first team and academy players with treatments, rehabilitation and management of injured players.  

The work placement is designed for students, currently studying a medical/sports therapy related degree, who are looking to gain valuable experience in an applied setting. The aim of the placement is to provide the candidate(s) with practical and applied knowledge, skills, and hands on experience throughout to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge gained and applied experiences within the field.

Key Job Outcomes
 Roles and responsibilities will include (but not limited to)
• Provide support/assistance to medical staff with treatments, rehabilitation and management of injured players.
• Assist with multi-disciplinary rehabilitation of injured players.
• Ensure all sites are stocked appropriately, in line with EFL rules. If new stock is required, inform senior staff so that replacements can be ordered.
• Keep an audit of dates related to all emergency medical equipment and drugs. Inform Head of Medicine when new orders need to be placed.
• At times you may be required to assist other members of the Performance Department to ensure a maximally efficient programme/provision is offered to all players.
• Fully engage in player and staff individual development plans.
• Access the latest sports medicine research, in order to identify areas the department can continue to improve provision to Academy players.
• Contribute to department Performance Plan, when requested.
• Attend Working Group meetings, when requested.
• Your line manager and Head of department reserve the right to alter roles and responsibilities at any time.

Person Specification
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience Required/ Desirable
Currently completing a BSc Sports Therapy/Rehabilitation with the ability to undertake a sandwich year 
Introduction to First Aid qualification 
FA Safeguarding children workshop 
Insurance to complete supervised work, through either the Society of Sports Therapists, BASRaT, HCPC, CSP. 
IT Skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint 
Strong communication skills 
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
 
Personal Qualities/Attributes 
Hardworking and enthusiastic 
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail 
Reliable and committed 
Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
Able to communicate effectively 
Willingness to work weekday evenings 
Excellent team player and motivator
