Role Purpose:
The Operations and Quality Manager will lead operational delivery, manufacturing coordination, and quality management activities within a fast-growing engineering consultancy specialising in battery systems, charging solutions, and electrification technologies for the marine, industrial, automotive, and defence sectors.  The role is responsible for ensuring efficient day-to-day operational performance across engineering support, prototype and low-volume manufacturing, supply chain coordination, quality systems, customer delivery, and continuous improvement activities. This includes supporting the manufacture of battery packs ranging from 60V to 800V using cylindrical and pouch cell technologies, as well as charging systems ranging from small mobility platforms through to large marine applications.  Working closely with the Operations Director and cross-functional engineering teams, the Operations and Quality Manager will help establish scalable operational processes, maintain quality standards, support business growth, and contribute to the successful delivery of complex electrification programmes from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operations Management Support and coordinate daily operational activities across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer delivery functions. Assist in establishing and improving operational systems, procedures, and workflows suitable for a growing start-up environment. Support operational planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and workload management. Monitor operational KPIs including quality, delivery, productivity, inventory, and customer performance metrics. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and scalability. 
  • Quality Management Develop, implement, and maintain company quality management systems and procedures. Support progression towards and maintenance of standards such as ISO9001 and future industry-specific certifications. Establish quality assurance processes covering engineering, manufacturing, and supplier management activities. Lead internal audits, process reviews, and quality improvement initiatives. Manage non-conformance processes, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions. Ensure robust traceability and documentation control systems are maintained for battery and electrification products. 
  • Manufacturing & Production Support Support prototype and production manufacturing activities for battery packs and charging systems. Assist with manufacturing process control, production readiness, and quality inspection activities. Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve product manufacturability and process repeatability. Ensure compliance with safe working practices relating to high-voltage systems and lithium-ion battery handling. 
  • Supply Chain & Supplier Coordination Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to support manufacturing and project delivery requirements. Support supplier quality activities including supplier evaluations, audits, and performance monitoring. Monitor inventory levels, material availability, and supply chain risks. Assist in establishing scalable supplier and logistics processes suitable for growth.
  • Engineering & Project Support Work collaboratively with engineering and programme teams to support successful project execution. Support configuration control, engineering change management, and product traceability processes. Assist with customer reporting and quality documentation requirements. Contribute to operational readiness for new product introduction (NPI) activities. 
  • Health, Safety & Compliance Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture throughout the organisation. Ensure compliance with company EHS procedures and regulatory requirements. Support safe handling, storage, and manufacturing of lithium-ion battery systems and HV products. Participate in risk assessments, process hazard reviews, and compliance activities. 
  • Team Leadership & Development Support development of operational and quality processes as the organisation scales. Provide guidance and support to operational, manufacturing, and quality personnel. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement-focused working culture.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, Operations Management, or related discipline. 
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in operations, manufacturing, quality, or programme support roles within engineering or technology-based industries. 
  • Experience working within manufacturing or engineering environments involving electro-mechanical or electrical systems. 
  • Strong understanding of operational processes, quality systems, and manufacturing coordination. 
  • Experience implementing or maintaining quality management systems. 
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills. ·       Experience supporting low-volume/high-mix manufacturing or prototype operations. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis capability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Preferred:
  • Experience within battery systems, EV, electrification, automotive, marine, aerospace, defence, or industrial sectors.
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery systems and high-voltage products. 
  • Experience supporting ISO9001 or IATF16949 quality systems, Quality Assurance Engineering Schemes (QAES) and JSP 940 - Ministry of Defence Policy for Quality.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, 8D, and structured quality methodologies. 
  • Experience in start-up or rapidly growing technology businesses. 
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools. 
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification advantageous.
  • Experience with traceability systems and configuration management. 
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements for electrification products.

 Location and Travel:
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK and have no restrictions for world-wide travel. We are unable to offer Visa sponsorship. 
  • This role is based at our Head Office in the UK, with flexibility for remote working up to 2 days a week. 
  • Working hours are 09h00 to 17h00, 5 days a week, however some travel is expected, and flexible working patterns are essential to the role.
