Our access to capital and real estate is important but our most valuable asset is our team and we are delighted now to be recruiting for a Mechanical Design Manager.

The role

  • Reporting to the MEP Design Director, we are looking for an ambitious individual to lead our mechanical design team.
  • You will be entrepreneurial in nature and have the capacity to deal with ambiguity.
  • You will own both the strategic and tactical elements of the mechanical design working with other internal design team members to create safe, sustainable, reliable and cost- effective designs.
  • You will be responsible for taking designs from concept, through permitting, tender, construction and commissioning phases culminating in a detailed Digital Record and Operational Building Information Model you can be proud of.
  • You will play an active part working with our customers on both Built to Suit (BTS) solutions and modifications to Apto’s Reference Design.
  • You will own the mechanical components of Apto’s Basis of Design (BOD) document with a keen focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • You will own managing external mechanical design consultants and Owner Furnished Client Installed (OFCI) vendors.
  • You will work with our Preconstruction Director and Commercial Director to ensure your designs work from a schedule and commercial perspective.
 
Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree.
  • 11+ years of experience with industrial or commercial mechanical design.
  • In-depth knowledge of data centre design, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems including air handling, fluid distribution and heat exchange, heat rejection, refrigeration, process water, fire protection and fuel systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of pumps, fans, heat exchangers and coils, dampers, filters, sensors, controls, humidifiers, water treatment systems and Building Monitoring and Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)..
  • Demonstrated ability to manage design vendors and OFCI vendors through full project life cycle.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology including the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and documents is essential.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience working with large data centre providers and / or end-users in multiple European metros.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data centre environments.
  • In depth knowledge of water systems design. 
  • Experience with value engineering at preconstruction stage.
  • Understanding of electrical equipment and system design.
  • Proven track record in creating high quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards and procedures.

Location
 
Dublin. 30% travel across Europe.
 
Reporting to MEP Design Director at Apto.
