Purpose & Overview:
Student voice is an integral part of the Union and what we deliver. As Interim Voice & Insight manager, you’ll strengthen how student voice is gathered, understood and used to shape Union priorities. The role will focus on ensuring student voice is heard clearly and consistently, supporting student leaders, students and the Union to turn this into meaningful action and change.
In this interim-period, you’ll ensure we keep student voice at the heart of what we do, while supporting the Union to review and develop the future of student voice at Derby.
Key Information
Your role will have office-space based at both Kedleston Road and One Friar Gate Square. However, you will be expected to spend time working and engaging at all of the University of Derby sites.
You will be entitled to one day per week working from home.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and delivery of the voice strand of the Union’s strategy by activities including, but not limited to:
· Planning strategic and functional work for the Voice team annually
· Developing initiatives and activities to deliver the strategy and achieve its measures
· Embedding community organising practice in the Union, working collaboratively across the membership team
· Implementing the recommendations of the student voice review
· Create exciting and engaging ways for our members to share their feedback and engage in the democratic structures of the Union
· Have a detailed understanding of the University’s deliberative structure and decision-making process, utilising this knowledge to influence and shape student experience
· Develop strong relationships with university stakeholders
Provide inspiring and effective line management support for the Voice team:
· Ensuring the voice team are supported to align their work and working practices to the Union strategy
· Provide regular 1-2-1s
· Act as the “link mentor” to the Union’s Vice President Education
Design, develop and manage systems for gathering student feedback by activities including, but not limited to:
· Escalating feedback through the appropriative deliberative and decision-making structures of the Union & University
· Manage consultation on key student issues on behalf of the Union and University
Manage the Union’s data & insight function by activities including, but not limited to:
· Supporting the collection and analysis of data to identify key themes, trends and emerging student issues
· Ensuring data collected by the Union informs campaigns, priorities and decision making in the Union
· Regularly communicating key data insights via briefings, reports and dashboards
· Supporting all Union departments to effectively embed student feedback in their working practice
Lead the campaigns function for the Union by activities including, but not limited to:
· Developing the Union’s campaign function, supporting students to campaign on the changes that matter to them
· Championing student change-making
Supporting elected officers and student leaders by activities including, but not limited to:
· Providing support, guidance & feedback to support student leaders to deliver against their priorities
· Ensuring representatives are diverse and representative of the student population
· Developing and delivering our student representative function
· Deliver and lead training and development opportunities for student leaders
· Supporting the Head of Membership to deliver officer induction
Deliver and manage the Unions formalised democratic & governance functions including, but not limited to:
· Managing all Union elections including the annual executive officer elections, as well as any other student leader elections
· Managing and deliver the annual all-student-meeting, ensuring appropriate engagement of student leaders, Trustees and Union staff
· Embed the Union meeting structure, collaborating across membership to ensure an engaging student-led decision-making function
Support the Head of Membership and Union Senior Leadership Team with any additional tasks or activities required.
Salary & Benefits:
· £28, 372
· You will be supported with training & development opportunities throughout this role. We recognise as an interim role, you may not have prior line-management or formalised leadership experience. We will support you with regular 1-2-1s, coaching and development to succeed in this role.
· Your current entitlement to statutory and company leave will remain the same.
