Magnetic Shields Limited (MSL) is a family-run industry leader in the design and manufacture of magnetically shielded products and rooms. Our state-of-the-art factory, equipped with high-power fibre cutting laser and full stock automation, has more than doubled our production capacity over the last 5 years. This period of expansion is an exciting time for the company, and we are looking to speak to applicants interested in heading up our Installation Team as the Installation and Service Manager.
 
Role Overview:              
We are seeking a hands-on Installation and Support Manager to lead and develop our global installation and support capability for our MuRoom products and other complex magnetic shielding systems. This role combines technical leadership, project delivery, and customer-facing responsibility, ensuring that all installations are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
 
The successful candidate will manage a team of approximately 6 Installation Technicians, while remaining actively involved in on-site installation, commissioning, and problem-solving activities.

This is a critical role within MSL, bridging engineering, production, and customer delivery. This role will ensure that our advanced shielding systems are installed and supported to the highest standards worldwide, directly impacting customer success and company reputation.

Team Leadership & Management:
  • Line manage, mentor, and develop a team of Installation Technicians
  • Plan and allocate resources across multiple concurrent installation projects
  • Set clear expectations for workmanship, conduct, and performance
  • Foster a strong team culture aligned with MSL’s values and professionalism
  • Manage customer expectations and deliver world class products globally 

Installation & Project Delivery (Hands-On)
  • Lead and participate in the on-site installation of magnetically shielded rooms and systems
  • Ensure installations are completed on time, to specification, and to the highest quality standards
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical documentation
  • Act as the first level of escalation, resolving issues in real time in partnership with the design teams
  • Be prepared to fly out at short-notice to installation sites to troubleshoot in the field

Oversee all aspects of installation including:
  • Structural framework assembly 
  • Shielding layer installation 
  • Ensuring construction to tight tolerances and the highest aesthetic finishes

Customer Interface & Support
  • Act as the primary “face of MSL” during installations
  • Build strong relationships with customers in research institutes, medical facilities, and universities  
  • Manage customer expectations and ensure a high level of satisfaction
  • Lead site meetings, progress updates, and handovers
  • Support post-installation activities including: troubleshooting and remedial work; ongoing service and support coordination

Project Coordination
  • Provide feedback from site to improve product design and manufacturability
  • Ensure readiness for installation (materials, documentation, logistics)
  • Identify and mitigate risks to installation timelines

Work closely with internal teams including:
  •  Project Management
  •  Mechanical and Electronic Engineering
  •  Production
  •  Packing and shipping

Quality, Safety & Process Improvement
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant, country specific health & safety regulations and site-specific requirements
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, and documentation
  • Contribute to development installation procedures and best practices
  • Maintain installation project documentation including RAMS day-to-date site operations 

Drive continuous improvement in:

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience (5 - 7 years) leading or supervising a technical team
  • Proven experience in a hands-on installation, engineering, or technical construction role
  • Strong practical skills with hand tools and power tools  
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and CAD models  
  • Excellent problem-solving ability in real-world, on-site environments
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Full driving licence and valid passport
  • Professional, customer-facing manner

Willingness to:
  • Travel globally and work away from home for extended periods
  • Work flexible or unsociable hours when required 

Desirable Experience
Background in:
  • Mechanical and / or electrical installation / construction
  •  Sheet metal or precision assembly of complex structures
  •  Scientific or high-spec technical environments

Experience with:
  •  Cleanroom or laboratory installations
  •  Electrical or HVAC system integration
  •  Sealing/finishing techniques (e.g. silicone, mastic)  

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and engineered products
  • Knowledge of health & safety systems and risk assessments
  • CSCS card (preferably black)
