About the Role

We are seeking a friendly, adaptable and committed individual with strong horticultural knowledge and experience to coordinate our Horticulture department within Creative Enterprise. You will lead meaningful work activities with residents, support the development of horticulture skills, and contribute to the ongoing care and maintenance of our beautiful grounds.

Key Responsibilities

Horticulture Leadership

  • Manage the seasonal work of the gardens, greenhouses and polytunnels.
  • Work with residents and the team to produce high-quality plants and produce for sale.
  • Maintain production areas and ensure a high standard of quality in all products.
  • Manage the grounds at The Lodge Trust with the support of residents.
  • Oversee budgets including recording materials purchased and sales made.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and legislative requirements.
  • Support the Creative Enterprise Manager in practical, on-site projects.
  • Support organisational events and developments.

Supporting Service Users

  • Supervise and support a team of people with learning disabilities to develop and maintain specialist skills.
  • Act as Link Worker for a number of service users and contribute to individual care plans.
  • Record progress and support active engagement in work activities.
  • Provide lunchtime support when service users have their main meal.
  • Assist individuals with personal hygiene, toilet visits and other tasks as appropriate.
  • Support residents during outings and Creative Enterprise activities.

Staff Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Horticulture Team Leader.
  • Liaise with other team leaders to share skills and ensure mutual support.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments when required.
  • Seek external advice where appropriate, in association with the Manager.
  • Work as part of the Creative Enterprise Services team.

Work Area Management

  • Ensure all work and storage areas are clean, tidy and compliant with relevant legislation.
  • Maintain and monitor equipment and facilities, reporting concerns promptly.
  • Support Lodge Trust events including Sales Days and Families Day.

Health & Safety

  • Understand and implement all relevant Health & Safety requirements.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
  • Keep accurate Health & Safety records and report concerns promptly.
  • Attend all required training.

Administration

  • Maintain required H&S check records and COSHH information.
  • Order supplies and work within allocated budgets.
  • Issue service user review reports in a timely manner.
  • Support the Manager with Manager audits.
  • Attend relevant meetings.
  • Advise the Creative Enterprise Manager on equipment or facility needs.
  • Complete regular stock audits.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Person Specification


Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Able to drive and in possession of a clean driving licence.
  • Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or be prepared to work towards).

Desirable

  • Professional qualification relevant to position.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • First aid at work.
  • Health and Safety qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Worked in a professional Horticulture environment for at least two years.
  • Good understanding of Health and safety at work.

Desirable

  • Worked in a team and demonstrated leadership capability.
  • Experience of learning disability.
  • Budget management.

Skills / Abilities

Essential

  • Able to support service users produce attractive/saleable products to a budget.
  • Ability to use all professional equipment required for work area.
  • Able to support residents to maintain the grounds at The Lodge Trust.
  • Able to support service users in a person-centred way.
  • Aware of Health and Safety implications and responsibilities.
  • Able to manage and motivate a team of people with learning disabilities.
  • Able to use IT effectively.
  • Able to administrate and plan.
  • Able to carry out risk assessments.
  • Able to complete budgets and stock checks.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Able to use initiative, make decisions and respond appropriately in an emergency.
  • Able to work as part of a team.

  • Able to advocate for people with learning disabilities.
