Overview

Sheffield Mind is looking for Here 4U Volunteers to support adults in Sheffield who are experiencing social isolation.

Our Here 4U service offers a weekly phone call to people who are socially isolated and need a little bit of help to access services and activities in their community. 

As a Here 4U Volunteer, you will provide a friendly and supportive conversation to adults accessing the service by offering a non‑judgemental chat and a listening ear.

Volunteers do not provide emotional, medical, therapeutic, or crisis support. Instead, you will help create a calm, respectful conversation and, where appropriate, offer information or signposting to other services.

Key Responsibilities

Offer individuals a weekly 30-minute phone call, for a maximum of 12 weeks. 
  • Provide information over the phone regarding Sheffield Mind / other organization's services and activities.
  • Create notes using our client database
  • Provide friendly, non-judgemental conversations over the telephone 
  • Listen attentively and communicate clearly and respectfully 
  • Maintain clear boundaries around the role and service remit 
  • Offer basic information and signposting when appropriate 
  • Follow all of Sheffield Mind’s policies and procedures
  • Escalate any concerns to senior staff when needed 
 

Person specification
 
  • Good communication skills, in person, over the phone, and in writing – Essential 
  • Understanding data protection, GDPR and the need for confidentiality when dealing with client records – Essential 
  • Ability to work independently, maintaining accuracy and good attention to detail – Essential 
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Internet and email – Essential 
  • Understands and respect’s role boundaries – Essential
  • Is reliable and can committed to volunteering weekly – Essential 
  • Can demonstrate active listening skills – Desirable

·  Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Sheffield Mind policies.
