We’re looking for an experienced Penetration Tester with leadership experience and exposure to commercial and operational elements of the role. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team, meeting business targets and growing the capability.   This opportunity requires someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, who enjoys the business and leadership elements of the role, as well as retaining technical credibility. You’ll be acting as a senior point of contact for clients, guiding the team and managing interactions with the broader business.

This is a ‘player-manager’ role with the successful candidate expected to deliver a billable utilisation of 30-40%. 
 
What you’ll be doing
 
 This hands-on role is based in the Professional Services team and reports directly to the company CTO, a member of the Reliance Cyber Leadership Team. You will lead the team and take accountability for the overall success of penetration testing services.
 
Duties and responsibilities 

  • Lead and mentor our team of penetration testers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. 
  • Track and manage financial and delivery focused KPIs. 
  • Retain talent, mentoring and developing the team to enable career progression. 
  • Collaborate with the sales team to provide technical expertise in pre-sales activities. 
  • Conduct scoping exercises to understand client requirements. 
  • Line management for the team scheduler, who will allocate resources and be a primary contact for billable work. 
  • Own the relationship with outsource providers, allocating contracts where needed as part of a strategy to deliver burst capacity. 
  • Oversee the execution of penetration tests, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery. 
  • Provide technical and commercial quality assurance on test reports. 
  • Deliver ad hoc testing engagements. 
  • Drive the development of the penetration service catalogue, working with marketing to create collateral that defines our capabilities and the value they deliver to clients. 
  • Manage and maintain the team’s accreditation status, ensuring compliance with industry standards.  

Skills and experience
You will need to demonstrate hands-on experience as a Practitioner and a leader within a team.  The following list is indicative of skills which would be considered relevant and transferable but not exhaustive. 

Essential:
  •  At least 3 years leading penetration testing teams. 
  • Ability to manage KPIs and build / maintain a robust delivery framework. 
  • Circa. 5+ years’ experience in a penetration testing role. 
  • Industry recognised certifications such as CREST, Cyber Scheme and Offensive Security certifications. 
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills. 
  • Track record of providing technical support to testers, especially during complex engagements, managing competing priorities, sharing knowledge and supporting team members under pressure. 
  • Experience as a point of escalation for client issues, resolving challenges effectively.

Desirable: 
  • Leadership training or qualifications. 
  • Niche technical skills, such as ICS, DevSecOps, containers etc. 
  • Experience of working in multiple companies, demonstrating an understanding of different delivery models.
