Overall purpose of job

To manage and develop the abundant, inspiring and unique Grow Wilder urban nature reserve in line with the site plan and Avon Wildlife Trust’s overarching strategy. Maximising the site’s commercial and social impact, potential to inspire and engage visitors, volunteers, the broader community and land partners to take action for nature through  habitat creation, education, practical experience and wildlife-friendly food growing.

Main responsibilities

·       Oversee both Grow Wilder Site 1 and Site 2 (Green Shoots) operations over 12 incredible acres of land, supporting staff, volunteers, customers, participants and members of the public to be inspired to take meaningful action for nature. 

·       Provide overall site management in line with our strategy, policies and procedures whilst delivering both income and expenditure targets. 

·       Manage the strong and knowledgeable onsite team, leading whilst supporting them and aiding with development where needed.

·       Support the team to manage, develop and maintain Grow Wilder for habitat creation, propagation and sale of wildflowers, and wildlife friendly food growing, for the benefit of nature’s recovery. 

·       Support the team to develop and maintain demonstration areas on the site and training opportunities to provide knowledge and skills to educate and inspire people from the broader community to take action for nature. 

·       Support and work closely with (providing cover where needed) the Events & Operations Officer to deliver a financially successful events programme at Grow Wilder. 


·       Contribute to transforming Grow Wilder Site 2/Green Shoots working closely with our Communities & Engagement team, lease requirements and broader  plans for potential commercial and grant funded expansion. 

·       Manage a strong, active group of well-trained volunteers to support the site and engage with visitors throughout the calendar year in line with our central volunteering processes.

·       Ensure the management and maintenance of the nature reserve (liaising with our Nature Reserves and Land Management team), 

·       Ensure the buildings and facilities on site are managed and maintained to high standards, taking a visitor-centred approach.
