Salary up to £32,500 depending on experience
About the role
We are inviting Physics/Software graduates to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract at our facility in Ulverston, Cumbria to support the development and characterisation of advanced acoustic transducer technologies.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience across acoustic analysis, transducer design, analysis tool development, experimental testing, and emerging acoustic technologies within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of acoustic analysis processes, design and modelling of acoustic transducers, supporting experimental testing and characterisation activities, and investigate future materials and manufacturing approaches relevant to underwater acoustics systems.
This role combines practical engineering, analytical physics, and software development, making it well suited to graduates with interests in acoustics, modelling, simulation, and experimental engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Acoustic Analysis & Modelling
- Support the development and improvement of analysis processes for acoustic transducer systems.
- Assist in transducer design activities using:
- Hand calculations and analytical methods
- Numerical modelling techniques
- Acoustic and structural FEA software packages
- Develop and maintain software tools, scripts, and automated analysis processes to support engineering activities.
- Support modelling and analysis of acoustic performance, vibration behaviour, and transducer characteristics.
Research & Technology Development
- Investigate emerging acoustic materials, manufacturing processes, and future technology concepts relevant to acoustic transducer development.
- Support feasibility studies and prototype evaluation activities.
- Contribute to technical reports, design documentation, and engineering reviews.
Experimental Testing & Characterisation
- Assist in the design and setup of acoustic test arrangements and supporting laboratory equipment.
- Support the preparation and instrumentation of test pieces and prototype transducers.
- Conduct acoustic testing and characterisation activities.
- Analyse and interpret experimental data, comparing results with analytical and simulation models.
Engineering Support
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering team including mechanical, hardware, software, and test engineers.
- Maintain accurate technical records and documentation.
