Role Summary
STR is seeking an experienced Offshore FMD Inspection Engineer on a contractor basis to support Gamma-based Flooded Member Detection (FMD) inspection campaigns. The role will primarily support UK offshore oil and gas projects, with increasing exposure to global operations.
They will demonstrate strong offshore inspection experience, sound electronic engineering principles, and the ability to operate Gamma FMD systems safely and efficiently as part of an offshore team. Previous Gamma FMD inspection experience is preferred; however, structured and bespoke training may be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Execution of Gamma-based Flooded Member Detection (FMD) inspections offshore
- Operation and interfacing of STR SeaGamma or similar Gamma FMD systems with acquisition software
- Preparation, configuration, testing, and operation of FMD equipment
- Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary offshore team
- Compliance with all radiation safety, offshore safety, and quality procedures
- Accurate data acquisition, reporting, and post-survey documentation
- Maintaining equipment integrity and reporting technical issues as required

- Strong understanding of electronic engineering principles and offshore inspection practices
- Ability to work unsupervised on offshore projects
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven ability to work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Proactive, adaptable, and team-focused “can-do” attitude
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to safety
Qualifications & Certifications (Essential)
- RPS (Radiation Protection Supervisor) Certification – mandatory
- Valid offshore medical (ENG1 and/or OGUK)
- BOSIET or FOET with EBS / CA-EBS (in date)
- Radiation safety awareness and proven practical compliance
- Eligibility to work offshore in the UK and internationally
Qualifications & Certifications (Desirable)
- Previous Gamma FMD inspection experience
- Norwegian Chute Escape certification
- GWO certifications
- Experience working with acquisition and data logging systems
This role is offered on a contractor basis only. Applicants must operate through their own limited company (or registered business) and be fully set up to provide services on this basis. Engagement will be subject to an IR35 status assessment in line with current IR35 legislation.
