External Quality Assurer (EQA) – Build Your Impact Across the Sector

Are you ready to apply your sector expertise and quality‑assurance knowledge beyond a single organisation?
 
Gateway Qualifications (regulated by Ofqual and Qualifications Wales) is seeking passionate professionals to join our External Quality Assurer (EQA) workforce. This role offers an opportunity to influence national standards, work collaboratively with Centres, and help maintain the integrity of regulated qualifications.

We are keen to hear from: Experienced EQAs, and Professionals with strong sector experience and a solid understanding of qualification assessment and IQA, who are ready to undertake EQA activity independently.

We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate:
  •  Strong, current sector expertise
  • Knowledge of qualification structures, assessment requirements, and quality assurance principles
  • Experience in assessment and/or IQA
  • The ability to interpret evidence confidently and make independent, evidence-based decisions.
 
Previous experience working as an EQA is advantageous but not essential, where applicants already meet the competence requirements to undertake EQA activity.

In your role as an EQA, you will: 
  • Sample assessment decisions to confirm they meet qualification requirements.
  • Review and evaluate assessment and IQA practice across Centres.
  • Provide clear, constructive, evidence‑based feedback.
  • Contribute to risk assessment of Centres and qualifications.
  • Support Centre recognition and qualification approval activity.
  • Operate in line with Gateway Qualifications’ EQA Handbook and regulatory requirements.
 
Most activity is completed remotely, with occasional Centre visits where required.

Specialist Areas of Interest: Alongside generalist EQA activity, we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in:

  • Level 5 Web Application
  • Level 4 Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
  • Level 3 Digital Suite Qualifications
  • Level 3 Land‑Based
  • Level 3 Residential Lettings & Property Management
  • Level 2 Digital and Creative Industries

Please note this role may require some travel to our partner institutions and centres.
