Was founded in 1994 by Perry Common residents and remains a resident-led community anchor. We work across North Birmingham, combining housing, employment and skills, advice, health and well-being, environmental action and neighbourhood development. We deliver from trusted community venues and convene partnerships including the North Birmingham Economic Recovery Board and B:CAN's network of 29 community anchors. This role offers the chance to influence major place-based priorities while staying connected to the residents and neighbourhoods they are intended to benefit.

 

We are looking for an experienced manager to lead WLCA's economy, skills and employment portfolio. You will shape strategy, lead our Employment and Skills Team and ensure that investment in North Birmingham creates practical benefits for residents, young people and businesses.

 

You will also support the North Birmingham Economic Recovery Board and help turn the North Birmingham Spatial Investment Strategy into a focused programme of delivery. This role needs someone who can see the bigger picture, bring partners together and keep complex work moving.

·   Coordinate the North Birmingham Economic Recovery Board through effective planning, high-quality papers, performance reporting and action tracking.

·   Turn the Spatial Investment Strategy into a phased delivery plan with clear outcomes, ownership, milestones and accountability.

·   Lead employment, skills and enterprise programmes that respond to resident need, labour-market demand and commissioner requirements.

·   Manage contracts, budgets, risk, performance and compliance, maintaining strong quality and audit readiness.

·   Build relationships with employers, developers, education providers and community partners to create vacancies, apprenticeships, work experience and sector pathways.

·   Lead and develop the team, use evidence to improve services and help secure future funding and investment.
