Location: The Devon Cricket Centre, University of Exeter, Stocker Road, Exeter, Devon EX4 4QN 

Role Purpose

The Devon Cricket Foundation in partnership with The Lords Taverners seek to appoint a Disability Cricket Officer who will be responsible for the coordination, growth, and delivery of disability and inclusive cricket programmes across Devon. This role supports the Devon Cricket Foundation’s aim of making cricket accessible to all by developing sustainable opportunities for people with disabilities to engage in the game, from participation to competition. The role will work closely with clubs, schools, community groups, and external partners and funders to embed inclusive practice and increase engagement across all disability cricket pathways. 

Key Responsibilities 

Programme Development and Delivery 

  • Manage and deliver a year-round Super 1s programme that is diverse, inclusive and is open to young people aged 12-25 with a disability from the community. 
  • Develop initiatives and deliver life skills workshops that increase confidence, communication, leadership and independence. 
  • Manage and deliver the Lords Taverners SEND school delivery programme along with the four community coaches ensuring more young people with SEND have the opportunity to engage in the most appropriate form of cricket for them. 
  • Transition more young people with a disability to community settings such as Super 1s, Champion Clubs and other appropriate community offers. 
  • Develop new participation opportunities for people with disabilities across all age groups and abilities. 
  • Develop and grow the County Disability team and implement a clear disability pathway. 
  • Identify and support the development of inclusive environments within cricket clubs. 
  • Support cricket clubs to become ‘Disability Cricket Champion Clubs’. 

Partnership and Community Engagement 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with special schools, SENCOs, disability organisations, local authorities, and health services. 
  • Collaborate with key partners (e.g., ECB, Lords Taverners, MCC Foundation, Active Devon) to align delivery with national frameworks. 
  • Promote inclusive cricket through community events, school networks, and local media. 

Workforce and Volunteer Development 

  • Recruit, train, and support coaches and volunteers to deliver inclusive cricket opportunities. 
  • Deliver disability awareness training to clubs, coaches, and cricket volunteers. 
  • Act as a key point of contact for inclusive cricket delivery across the county. 

Monitoring, Reporting, and Administration 

  • Manage all programme data requirements of the SEND & Super 1s programmes ensuring timely and accurate data is collected and recorded on the Upshot monitoring system. 
  • Submit timely reports and case studies to the ECB, Lords Taverners, and other funding bodies. 
  • Create and manage marketing materials and promotional campaigns for disability cricket. 
  • Update relevant sections of the Devon Cricket website and social media with disability cricket content. 

Events and Competitions 

  • Organise and deliver table cricket and softball competitions and festivals for schools. 
  • Organise and deliver local and county-wide disability cricket festivals and competitions. 
  • Support talent identification and progression into county and regional disability squads. 
  • Lead the delivery of accessible cricket events for schools and community groups. 

Other Duties 

  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Devon Cricket Foundation. 

Person Specification 

Essential 

  • Experience working in disability sport, inclusive education, or community development. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. 
  • Ability to plan and deliver inclusive cricket or sport sessions. 
  • Organised and proactive with strong administrative and time-management skills. 
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as required. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of cricket and its development pathways. 
  • Experience working in schools, SEN environments, or with community sports clubs. 
  • Coaching qualification (e.g., ECB Core Coach or equivalent). 
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own transport. 
  • Experience using online monitoring systems. 
  • Experience working with national governing bodies or funding partners.
