We are an independent and agile strategic communications consultancy. For over 10 years, we’ve delivered exceptional work for individuals and organisations worldwide, from Forbes, Maybourne Hotels and Kering, to DAZN, Aegon, and News UK.

We’re small enough to give clients our full attention, yet big enough to handle the most ambitious and high-stakes briefs. Our dynamic and deeply connected team works across corporate communications, crisis management, and public affairs.

Our structure enables us to deliver fully integrated, data and behaviour-driven campaigns, regularly working with blended client teams spanning comms, marketing, sales and the most senior decision-makers and strategists. We’re committed to creating a team atmosphere fuelled by learning, unafraid to take new paths and ask hard questions, while always putting the commercial objectives of our clients first.

We believe in empowering our people with freedom and autonomy, supporting innovation and providing tailored growth opportunities and having fun along the way. Diversity of thought and background fuels our creativity and collaboration, and we’re committed to building an inclusive, connected culture where everyone can belong and thrive.

Overview

As a Content Strategist you’ll act as the connector between insight, creativity, and execution, inspiring colleagues to think audience first, understanding who they are, what they care about, and how they behave across digital platforms. You’ll translate these insights into sharp strategies for clients working across sectors and spaces.

You’ll be a trend-spotter, innovator, storyteller, and analyst, decoding data and cultural signals to create channel-specific strategies and plans for campaigns, strategic communications, and year-round engagement activities for our clients. Your work will ensure our communications perform exceptionally against client objectives, measured by depth, breadth, and scale of audience engagement.

You will be a trusted advisor to senior clients and go-to source of insight and counsel. You are a strategic thinker with deep experience developing and overseeing the execution of high-quality, multidisciplinary campaigns on behalf of clients. You and your peers are central to the running of the consultancy, driving Hawthorn’s entrepreneurial culture and taking responsibility for managing junior members of the team – playing a key role in developing and retaining Hawthorn’s talent.

You will shape and deliver strategy and content for a wide range of clients as well as advising other client teams across the business. You’ll provide expert guidance on everything from writing and developing content that cuts across multiple channels to building our knowledge and evidence base for informed content decisions.

Key Responsibilities

For clients:
·         Interpret client briefs and turn them into actionable content strategies, advising on formats, platforms, placements, and tone of voice.
·         Use research and platform data to understand audience behaviours, preferences, and trends, and turn these insights into effective content strategies for clients and new biz prospects.
·         Oversee content planning and optimisation, ensuring creative outputs are audience-relevant, aligned with campaign objectives and measurable.
·         Contribute creative and original ideas in brainstorms and client meetings (as well as new biz pitch processes), shaping narratives and social storytelling.
·         Monitor and interpret analytics (reach, engagement, retention, conversions) to evaluate content effectiveness and inform future campaigns.
·         Work collaboratively across a diverse client portfolio in sectors including tech, media, energy, financial services, and luxury.
·         Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and contractors, responding promptly to feedback to deliver high-quality outputs.
·         Partner with cross functional stakeholders to uncover challenges and opportunities, to anticipate needs and confidently transform insights into actionable briefs.

For Hawthorn:
·         Split your time between leading content strategy for your own clients and contributing expertise in an advisory capacity across Hawthorn’s broader portfolio.
·         Own content strategy and roadmaps for Hawthorn (and clients), setting priorities, themes, and success metrics across channels.
·         Oversee account management and support senior leaders in business development activities.
·         Stay up to date with evolving digital trends, platform updates, and user behaviours to inform strategy and execution.

·         Established track record of campaign delivery as well as strategy for ongoing programmes.
·         Strong ability to interpret briefs and translate them into actionable strategies across multiple channels.
·         Confident scoping projects, managing budgets and ensuring clients and briefs remain profitable for the consultancy.
