Purpose & Overview:

 

To manage the day-to-day front of house operations of Union of Students commercial outlets.  You will be responsible for ensuring effective management of procedures, compliance, stock, staff and systems. To embed an excellent customer experience across all outlets, alongside implementing innovative service delivery to the meet the needs of a diverse student population.

 

Key Information

 

Your role will require you to work across all Union of Students commercial outlets including Blends KR, Blends MS, Blends Cav and Keddies. You will have office-space based at both Kedleston Road and One Friar Gate Square. 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

To hold responsibility for the Unions front of house operations across its commercial outlets, directing, motivating and empowering a student staff team to deliver an innovative catering provision whilst delivering legal and operation compliance:

·      Under the leadership of the Commercial Operations Manager meet targets for financial performance and reporting catering provision including sales, expenditure, wastage and stock

·      Oversee and deliver the daily functions associated with delivering a robust commercial provision, including ordering, invoices, PO’s, stock management and delivery management

·      Ensure the effective management and utilisation of all systems and technology (EPOS, Stock)

·         Ensure the completion of legal and compliance processes including licensing, EHO, trading standards, health and safety and the food safety act

·         Work under the guidance of organisational financial procedures ensuring these are adhered to including completion of purchase orders, invoices, cashing up process and payroll

·         Build and maintain strong working relationships across all areas of the organisation, engaging with departments and supporting activity where possible

·         To deliver daily checks in outlet of work, assessing standards, quality of products and service and providing feedback to staff team.

·         To support the Catering Operations Manager with the delivery of Medium to Large scale hospitality activity

·         To ensure adherence to all GDPR policies and procedures

 

Provide inspiring and effective line management support for the commercial operations team, leading by example and embedding a strong customer culture throughout:

·         Provide effective staff management across a team of student staff utilising coaching and guidance techniques. This includes effective management of ROTA adherence and sickness

·         To deliver and embed exceptional standards across all areas of the business, delivering student staff training, performance management and strong customer service as led by the Commercial Operations Manager

·         To work to weekly ROTAs, utilising staffing levels within the confines of financial budgets, ensuring all payroll processes are completed in accordance with the organisations processes

·         To support the recruitment and retention process across the Unions Commercial Operations provision

·         To ensure all employees are treated with respect, equality and fairness. Supporting student staff throughout their employment and providing the opportunity for all the reach their potential

·         Live the Union of Students core values daily, embedding these into your work and engaging with organisational events, activities and meetings

·         Effectively communicate with staff at all levels of the organisation, sharing ideas, wins, issues and utilising their connections to strengthen commercial engagement

 

Drive innovation across all commercial outlets, researching market trends, products, services and student demographic changes to deliver consistent business development

·      Utilise knowledge within the commercial industry to keep up with market trends, developing new catering services and products, delivering maximum profitability.

·      Collaborate with internal teams to maximise commercial activity during key periods (e.g. Freshers, Varsity, events and Open Days)

·         Under the direction of the Commercial Operations Manager act as front of house leader for our commercial outlets, delivering strong services, meeting customers needs and regularly developing the service to drive usage.

·         Ensure regular reviews of products, services and outlets; delivering strategic changes throughout the financial year to ensure outlets maintain performance

·         Ensure full compliance with the Union of Students and legislative health and safety policies and procedures

·         Perform such other duties as may be necessary within the scope of the job to meet the needs of the department and Union as directed from time to time by the Head of Operations and Commercial Operations Manager
