Role Purpose:
The Build Technician will support the assembly, integration, testing and inspection of prototype, development and early production products within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Working as part of the manufacturing team, the role will ensure products are built safely, efficiently and in accordance with defined processes, engineering requirements and quality standards. The role will involve working on products incorporating hazardous voltage electrical systems and energy storage technologies, requiring strict adherence to safe systems of work, manufacturing procedures and traceability requirements. The Build Technician will contribute to the successful delivery of manufacturing programmes while developing technical skills and supporting the growth of the company's advanced manufacturing capability.

Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Operations 
  • Assemble products in accordance with work instructions, drawings and manufacturing procedures. 
  • Support prototype, development and production build activities. 
  • Complete production documentation and manufacturing records accurately. 
  • Follow manufacturing processes, quality standards and safety procedures. 
  • Support material preparation, inventory management and production activities. 
Manufacturing Capability 
  • Support facility setup, manufacturing cell development and production readiness activities. 
  • Assist with equipment installation, commissioning and validation activities. 
  • Contribute to the development of work instructions, standard operating procedures and manufacturing documentation. 
  • Assist in the development of scalable manufacturing methods and best practices. 
Assembly & Testing 
  • Assemble, integrate and test products incorporating hazardous voltage electrical systems to a high standard of workmanship. 
  • Follow defined hazardous voltage procedures, permits and safe systems of work. 
  • Verify products are electrically safe before progression to subsequent manufacturing stages. 
  • Support safe energisation, de-energisation and isolation activities. 
  • Ensure completion of required safety and traceability documentation associated with high-voltage products 
  • Record build and test results accurately. 
  • Escalate manufacturing, quality or safety concerns promptly. 
Quality & Continuous Improvement 
  • Perform visual and basic dimensional inspections. 
  • Follow defined quality control processes. 
  • Support traceability and documentation requirements. 
  • Identify and report defects, non-conformances and workmanship issues. 
  • Support rework and containment activities when required 
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, safety and productivity. 
  • Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles. 
Safety & Compliance 
  • Comply with all hazardous voltage safety requirements, battery handling procedures and risk assessments. 
  • Maintain required training and authorisations for HV activities. 
  • Use electrically rated PPE, insulated tooling and safety equipment as required. 
  • Immediately stop work and escalate unsafe conditions, equipment defects or deviations from approved procedures. 
  • Participate in emergency response drills and electrical safety exercises where required. 
  • Support implementation of safe working practices for electrical and energy-storage systems. 
  • Promote a strong safety culture through positive behaviours and adherence to procedures. 
Equipment & Facility Support 
  • Maintain equipment, tools and fixtures in a safe and operational condition. 
  • Support calibration and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Assist with commissioning and validation of new equipment and manufacturing workstations. 
  • Maintain workplace organisation and housekeeping standards.

 Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
  • Apprenticeship, NVQ, technical qualification or equivalent practical experience. 
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in manufacturing, assembly, engineering or production environments. 
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment where safety-critical procedures are followed. 
  • Ability and willingness to undertake hazardous voltage safety training and work in accordance with electrically safe systems of work. 
  • Basic understanding of electrical hazards and safe working practices 
  • Good practical assembly skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work instructions. 
  • Basic computer literacy and record-keeping capability. 
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.

 Qualifications, Experience and Skills Preferred:
  • Experience within manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, defence, electronics, marine or industrial sectors. 
  • Experience with electro-mechanical assembly activities. 
  • Familiarity with manufacturing quality requirements and controlled processes. 
  • Experience operating production equipment or test equipment. 
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles. 
  • Experience using ERP, MES or traceability systems.

 Role specific knowledge:
  • Lithium-ion cell technologies and battery pack assembly. 
  • Hazardous voltage safety principles and safe systems of work. 
  • Electrical isolation and lock-off procedures. 
  • Safe use of insulated tools, PPE and test equipment. 
  • Manufacturing process control and product traceability. 
  • Quality inspection methods and non-conformance management. 
  • Root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques. 
  • Safe handling, storage and transport considerations for lithium-ion batteries and energy storage products. 
  • Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

 Location and Travel:
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK and have no restrictions for world-wide travel. We are unable to offer Visa sponsorship. 
  • Working hours are 09h00 to 17h00, 5 days a week, however some travel is expected, and flexible working patterns are essential to the role.
