Bar Staff Member / Site Lead

Location: Rowheath Pavilion, Heath Road, Bournville, Birmingham, B30 1HH
Reports to: Hospitality Manager
Contract type: Zero-hours / casual worker
Hours: Wednesday Site Lead bar cover required, with additional zero-hours availability Thursday to Sunday depending on bar, event and site needs
Rate of pay: Bar Staff shifts and Site Lead shifts will be paid at separate rates, with Site Lead shifts paid at a higher rate to reflect the additional responsibility.

Job Purpose
The Bar Staff Member / Site Lead supports the smooth, safe and welcoming running of Rowheath Pavilion’s bar and wider site. The role combines hands-on bar service with responsibility for acting as the on-site point of contact when management is not present. The postholder will help deliver excellent customer service, support events and community use of the building, maintain high standards of cleanliness and compliance, and respond calmly and appropriately to issues that arise on site.

Main Responsibilities
Bar Staff Duties
·         Provide a friendly, professional and welcoming service to members, guests, hirers and visitors.
·         Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in line with licensing requirements and Rowheath Pavilion procedures.
·         Follow Challenge 25, membership and guest sign-in procedures, and ensure alcohol is served responsibly.
·         Operate the till and card payment systems accurately, following cash-handling and finance procedures.
·         Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, presentation and hygiene in the bar, cellar and customer areas.
·         Carry out opening, closing, restocking, glass collection, cleaning and end-of-shift tasks as required.
·         Support functions, weddings, community events, sports fixtures and busy trading periods.
·         Communicate stock shortages, maintenance issues, customer concerns and incidents to the appropriate manager.

Site Lead Duties
·         Act as the main point of contact on site when management is not present.
·         Open, close and secure the building as required, following key-holder, alarm and locking-up procedures.
·         Be alert to anti-social behaviour, safeguarding concerns, health and safety risks, or issues that could escalate, and respond appropriately.
·         Contact the on-call manager, emergency services, security or approved contractors when required.
·         Receive questions, complaints or concerns from members of the public in a calm and professional manner, resolving where possible and escalating when needed.
·         Support hirers, functions and community groups by signposting, sharing relevant site information and coordinating with café, bar or cleaning staff.
·         Respond to practical site issues such as blocked toilets, leaks, alarms, building faults or urgent maintenance concerns.
·         Record and communicate incidents, accidents, complaints or significant issues clearly to management.

Person Specification
Essential
·         Friendly, approachable and confident with customers, staff, volunteers and members of the public.
·         Reliable, responsible and able to work independently when needed.
·         Previous bar, hospitality, customer service or events experience.
·         Experience as a key holder, shift leader, supervisor or site lead
·         Willing and able to work Wednesday Site Lead bar cover, with additional availability Thursday to Sunday on a zero-hours basis.
·         Calm under pressure, with good judgement when responding to complaints, incidents or unexpected problems.
·         Good communication skills and ability to pass on information clearly to managers and colleagues.
·         Commitment to maintaining Rowheath Pavilion’s welcoming, respectful and community-focused culture.
·         Willingness to follow health and safety, licensing, safeguarding, food hygiene and site procedures.
·         Must be aged 18 or over due to alcohol service responsibilities.

Desirable
·         Knowledge of cellar management, stock control, line cleaning or bar closing procedures.
·         First aid, fire warden, food hygiene, safeguarding or licensing training.
·         Experience supporting functions, weddings, sports fixtures or community events.

Training will be provided for key procedures, including bar operations, licensing expectations, site opening and closing, health and safety, safeguarding, incident reporting and any other relevant responsibilities.
