The South West Heritage Trust are seeking a flexible and customer-focused Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day operation of The Museum of Somerset. Working closely with the Museum Manager, you will help deliver a welcoming, accessible and vibrant visitor experience.
The role includes supervising visitor services staff and volunteers, oversight of the room hire and holiday let at Castle House, and acting as Duty Manager with responsibility for site safety, security and smooth operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Visitor Services Assistants and volunteers
- Deliver excellent customer service to a diverse range of visitors
- Oversee Castle House room hire and the Castle House holiday let
- Act as Duty Manager, overseeing daily security and safety
- Support events, group visits and evening/weekend functions
- Operate EPOS systems and oversee cash handling
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures
- Attend out-of-hours emergency call-outs when required
You will have experience in a front-of-house visitor or customer service role, ideally with supervisory responsibility. You will be organised, approachable and confident, with good IT skills and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays (time off in lieu provided).
Experience in a museum, heritage or visitor attraction setting, and knowledge of Somerset’s history and heritage, are desirable.
