Role Summary
The Sports Therapy Intern will support Cambridge United FC’s Academy Sports Science & Medicine team, working primarily with the U18 squad and schoolboy age groups. This placement provides hands-on experience within a professional academy environment, offering the opportunity to work closely with developing young athletes and contribute to their physical welfare and performance progression.
The intern will assist in the delivery of injury assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation programmes for U9–U16 players and the U18s, under supervision from qualified staff. Duties will include supporting pre-training preparation, assisting with pitch-side first aid at training and matches, delivering injury-prevention exercises, aiding recovery sessions, and contributing to daily documentation and injury management processes.
This role provides a valuable development pathway for an aspiring sports therapist, offering exposure to the demands of academy football and the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to long-term player development. The successful intern will gain practical skills, professional mentorship, and an insight into the medical and performance standards expected within an elite youth football environment.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience Required/ Desirable
Currently studying a sports therapy related degree
Introduction to First Aid qualification
FA Safeguarding Children Certificate
Experience of delivering excellent customer services
IT Skills, including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
Experience of working with player/parents in football environments
Experience in leading/managing an area/people or teams
Experience working in a high performing business environment
Understanding of how elite players are developed
Personal Qualities/Attributes
