We’re looking for a curious, methodical Junior QA Tester to join Shoptimised. You’ll help us deliver reliable, easy-to-use software through manual testing, while learning how AI can accelerate testing and support everyday work. You’ll receive practical training in testing principles, AI tools and AI-driven workflows. This role would suit someone starting a career in testing who enjoys solving problems and wants to explore new ways of working.
What you’ll be doing
- Manually testing new features and changes against requirements and expected behaviour.
- Following test cases and checklists, then learning to write and maintain your own.
- Exploring the software from a user’s perspective to find unexpected behaviour and usability issues.
- Reporting bugs clearly, including steps to reproduce them, expected and actual results, and supporting screenshots or recordings.
- Retesting fixes and checking that changes haven’t broken existing functionality.
- Keeping accurate records of testing and communicating progress, findings and blockers.
- Working with developers and other colleagues to understand features and clarify requirements.
- Using AI with guidance to generate tests, explore edge cases, improve documentation and support investigations.
- Helping develop repeatable AI-assisted workflows that reduce repetitive work and improve testing coverage.
What we’re looking for
- Strong attention to detail and a patient, methodical approach.
- Curiosity about how software works and what might cause it to go wrong.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- The ability to follow instructions, organise your work and keep useful notes.
- Confidence to ask questions and challenge assumptions.
- A willingness to learn, take feedback and work collaboratively.
- An interest in AI and how it can be applied to practical problems.
- Basic confidence using computers, web browsers and online applications.
You don’t need previous professional testing experience or specialist AI knowledge. We’re interested in how you approach problems, communicate what you find and develop your skills.
Helpful, but not essential
- An interest in software testing, technology or software development.
- Experience spotting and explaining problems in a website or application.
- Familiarity with bug-tracking tools or basic testing terminology.
- Experience experimenting with AI tools for work, study or personal projects.
- Relevant learning through a course, qualification, personal project or self-study.
What you’ll learn
Testing fundamentals
- How quality assurance fits into software development.
- How to turn requirements into useful tests.
- How to test typical usage, boundaries, invalid inputs and unexpected situations.
- How to write clear bug reports, assess impact and prioritise testing.
- How to combine planned tests with exploratory testing.
AI-accelerated testing and workflows
- Hands-on use of AI tools, with training and mentoring from your manager.
- How to give AI clear instructions and useful context.
- How to use AI to support test planning, test case creation and documentation.
- How to evaluate AI suggestions, verify their accuracy and identify gaps.
- How to build repeatable AI-driven workflows and assess whether they improve the quality or speed of your work.
- When to use AI and when direct investigation and human judgement are needed.
Test automation
- Practical automation skills, with training and mentoring from your manager.
- How to identify tests that are useful to automate.
- How to run automated tests and investigate failures.
- How to build and maintain reliable automated tests as your skills develop
What success looks like
As you develop in the role, you’ll become confident completing agreed testing, recording reliable results and raising clear, reproducible bug reports. Over time, you’ll take ownership of testing smaller changes, contribute your own test ideas and use AI thoughtfully to make your work more effective.
