The opportunity

WBR Group is looking for an experienced and proactive Compliance Manager to join our Risk and Compliance team.

This is a broad second-line compliance role offering the opportunity to work across a varied and evolving regulatory landscape. You will support the business in meeting its regulatory obligations, applying industry best practice and protecting both the organisation and its clients from harm.

Working closely with the Director of Risk & Compliance and senior stakeholders, you will provide practical advice, independent oversight and constructive challenge. You will also help embed a strong compliance culture across the Group.

What you’ll be doing

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and developing compliance frameworks across relevant regulatory bodies, including the SRA, HMRC, TPR, CIOT, ICO and IFoA
  • Monitoring regulatory developments, assessing their impact and providing clear, pragmatic guidance to the business
  • Supporting regulatory enquiries, audits and inspections
  • Coordinating regulatory change initiatives and the implementation of new requirements
  • Managing the Compliance Monitoring Programme and undertaking thematic and assurance reviews
  • Assessing the effectiveness of key regulatory controls and tracking resulting remedial actions
  • Providing oversight and constructive challenge in relation to cyber security, suppliers and vendor controls
  • Supporting the development of compliance management information and Key Risk Indicators
  • Overseeing complaints governance, identifying trends and supporting appropriate remediation
  • Supporting Consumer Duty governance, customer outcome monitoring, vulnerable customer arrangements and fair value assessments
  • Maintaining oversight of the Group’s data protection framework, including UK GDPR, data breaches, subject access requests and Data Protection Impact Assessments
  • Developing and maintaining compliance policies, procedures, standards and registers
  • Working with the Training team to develop and deliver regulatory and compliance training
  • Providing guidance and appropriate oversight to junior members of the Compliance team
  • Supporting wider risk, governance and compliance projects across WBR Group.

What we’re looking for

You will be an experienced compliance professional who can confidently interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, commercially balanced guidance.

You will need:

  • Proven compliance experience within a regulated financial services environment
  • Experience of managing compliance frameworks and regulatory reporting
  • Experience of compliance monitoring, assurance, checking or quality review activity
  • The ability to analyse regulatory requirements and communicate their business impact clearly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The confidence to work independently, manage day-to-day responsibilities and provide appropriate challenge
  • The ability to collaborate effectively as part of a small team
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Knowledge of UK GDPR, AML, TPR, FCA, HMRC, CIOT, SRA, SMCR or Consumer Duty requirements would be beneficial. Previous experience within a SSAS or SIPP environment would also be an advantage, although we welcome applicants who are motivated to develop their knowledge in these areas.

Relevant professional qualifications through bodies such as the ICA, IRM or CISI would be advantageous but are not essential.

About You

You will:

  • Enjoy taking ownership and working through complex challenges
  • Approach problems constructively and pragmatically
  • Be adaptable, resilient and comfortable working in a changing environment
  • Have a genuine appetite to learn and develop
  • Be commercially aware and able to balance regulatory risk with business needs
  • Work collaboratively and contribute positively to the wider team
  • Be motivated by achieving high standards and positive customer outcomes.

Why join WBR Group?

This is an excellent opportunity to take on a varied and influential compliance role within a growing organisation. You will work across several regulatory areas, build relationships with colleagues and senior leaders, and help shape effective compliance arrangements across the Group.

The position can be based from our Leicester, Salisbury, Bolton or Bristol office, with hybrid working available. The successful candidate may be required to complete credit and DBS checks as part of the recruitment process.

If you are an experienced compliance professional looking for a broad role where you can influence, challenge and make a meaningful contribution, we would be pleased to hear from you.
