Performance Pathway Coaching Opportunities
Cricket Scotland is looking for three Head Coaches to work within our performance pathway programmes.

These roles offer an opportunity to shape players’ development through coaching, match preparation and individual feedback. Working with our performance staff, fellow coaches, players and clubs, you will help young cricketers build their skills and progress within a positive and supportive environment.

We are recruiting for the following positions:
  • Eastern Knights Boys Head Coach
  • Western Warriors Boys Head Coach
  • National Boys U15s Head Coach

All three roles are part-time, working an average of 4 hours per week, with flexibility required around training and matches.

About Cricket Scotland

Cricket Scotland is the national governing body for cricket in Scotland. We organise and develop the game at every level, from grassroots participation to international competition, supporting leagues, coaching and community programmes across the country.

Our four-year strategy, Uniting People and Communities through Cricket (2024–2028), sets out our ambition to grow participation and achieve on-field success, bringing people and communities together through cricket. We are committed to making the sport inclusive, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

What you will do

Within each of these roles, you will be responsible for leading the relevant programme, working with the Head of Performance Pathway (Boys), sport science staff and other national and regional coaches to support players’ development.

Within each role you will:

  • Attend training sessions and matches as agreed, and develop tailored training programmes and game day plans for squad members.
  • Communicate with players, parents and clubs about the programme, expectations, selection and player feedback, including delivering an induction session for parents.
  • Lead selection for winter and summer squads in line with Cricket Scotland’s selection process.
  • Work with national and regional coaches to observe players throughout the year and support talent identification and development.
  • Complete the performance pathway player monitoring documents for squad members.
  • Attend performance coaching group meetings and continuing professional development opportunities provided by Cricket Scotland.

Person Specification

To be considered for these roles, you should have a sound practical knowledge, strong communication skills and the ability to plan and organise a player development programme, which includes:

  • Significant experience of coaching young and adult cricketers, ideally across regional, national youth or senior performance environments.
  • An understanding of performance planning and individual player development plans, supported by practical experience of player development programmes in performance sport.
  • Knowledge and understanding of talent identification and development.
  • Experience of building constructive relationships with partners and stakeholders, and an understanding of how equality, diversity and inclusion apply in sport.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisation and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Confidence using IT systems for communication, player monitoring and reporting, and a flexible approach to meeting the needs of the programme.

In addition, for the National Boys U15s Head Coach role, you should also be able to demonstrate experience of coaching or engaging with developing athletes.

Working with Cricket Scotland

Each role is part-time, working an average of 4 hours per week. A flexible approach is required, including evening and weekend work in winter and some weekday activity during the summer months.

As these are part-time roles, working an average of 4 hours per week sponsorship is not available for these posts. Applicants must be living in Scotland, or willing to relocate by the agreed start date, and already have the right to work in the UK.

You will work at a mixture of locations throughout Scotland and the UK.

These roles involve working with children and young people. Appointment is subject to satisfactory PVG Scheme membership.
