Reporting To | Financial Controller
About the Role
As Financial Accountant, you will play a central role in delivering high-quality financial reporting within a growing challenger bank. You will be responsible for statutory reporting, technical accounting, balance sheet integrity, audit management and maintaining a robust financial control environment. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will support the Bank's continued growth while ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards and regulatory expectations.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will:
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
- Produce statutory financial statements in line with reporting deadlines and relevant accounting standards, we report under FRS 102.
- Own and oversee timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain the completeness, accuracy and integrity of the Bank's financial records.
- Lead internal and external audits, including preparing audit documentation and responding to audit requests.
- Support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities and ensure an effective financial control framework through robust reconciliations, journal governance, control reviews and documented accounting policies.
- Prepare tax disclosures and work with external advisers on corporation tax returns and Research and Development (R&D) claims.
- Develop, document and enhance accounting policies and financial reporting processes
- Prepare high-quality technical accounting papers, including assessment of new transactions, accounting policy papers and accounting position papers to support external audit conclusions
- Support finance transformation initiatives including system implementations, process automation, new product launches and continuous improvement of financial reporting processes.
- Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen controls, enhance reporting quality and improve operational efficiency.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- ACA or ACCA qualified.
- At least two years' post-qualified experience.
- Demonstrable experience preparing statutory financial statements within a regulated environment.
- Demonstrable experience in coordinating and delivery of month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
- Experience supporting or leading internal and external audits.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across the business.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience working within banking or financial services- Savings, Mortgages and treasury activities.
- Experience applying FRS 102 and/or IFRS within financial services, including an understanding of financial instruments and hedge accounting.
- Experience of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
- Experience improving financial processes and controls.
