Purpose of the role

Lincoln City Football Club is seeking an experienced communications manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of the club's communications activity.
 
The successful candidate will oversee editorial planning, media relations, corporate communications and matchday media operations, ensuring the club tells compelling stories while protecting and enhancing its reputation.
 
 Working closely with colleagues across the football club, the communications manager will ensure communications are proactive, professional and aligned with the club's values.

Key responsibilities

Media relations

  • Act as the primary day-to-day contact for local, regional and national media
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, broadcasters and industry contacts
  • Manage media accreditation, interview requests and filming permissions
  • Organise and oversee press conferences and media events
  • Prepare briefing documents for club representatives undertaking media interviews
  • Co-ordinate media activity around transfers, appointments and major announcements

Editorial & content

  • Plan the club's editorial calendar
  • Write and edit high-quality news stories, interviews, features and matchday articles
  • Ensure all written communications maintain a consistent tone of voice and editorial standards
  • Produce internal communications for staff and stakeholders
  • Develop communications plans for key club projects and announcements
  • Co-ordinate communications around the men's first team
  • Support communications for the academy and women's programme
  • Manage player media schedules in conjunction with football operations
 
Matchday operations

  • Lead all media operations on home matchdays
  • Manage accreditation and press facilities
  • Co-ordinate photographers, broadcasters and external media
  • Ensure post-match media commitments are delivered efficiently
 
Person specification

Essential

  • Experience in communications, journalism or media relations
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proof-reading skills
  • Strong understanding of football media and the wider sports landscape
  • Experience developing communications strategies and plans
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Calm under pressure and able to make sound decisions quickly
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Flexible approach to working evenings and weekends

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within elite sport
  • Knowledge of EFL media operations
  • Experience in crisis communications
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and content management systems
  • Experience briefing senior executives for media appearances
