Senior Vision SLAM Specialist – Job Description
Location: London, UK
Relocation and Sponsorship: Not provided
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Head of Engineering
Purpose
Kybera is seeking a Senior Vision SLAM Specialist to architect, lead, and scale the visual SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, and image-based mapping capabilities that span our localization, mapping, and perception pipelines.
About the role
Reporting into the Head of Engineering, this is a senior individual-contributor role with strong technical leadership across multi-view geometry, deep learning for visual features, and real-time visual-inertial state estimation.
You will set the direction for how Kybera exploits cameras across the autonomy stack and how those Vision SLAM systems are validated, certified, and reliably deployed at customer sites.
What you’ll do
- Define and maintain the technical roadmap for Vision SLAM, visual odometry, visual-inertial odometry (VIO) and image-based localisation capabilities.
- Design and develop end-to-end pipelines, including but not limited to feature detection, feature matching, tracking, keyframe management, map representation, loop closure and optimisation back-ends.
- Develop methods for visual-inertial fusion, uncertainty modelling, fault detection and degradation handling in challenging operating conditions.
- Support vision-based perception pipelines through camera calibration, image quality assessment, visual feature extraction, semantic cues, data capture strategy and sensor fusion.
- Establish validation methods, metrics and test processes for SLAM, VIO, localisation accuracy, mapping quality and perception-supporting visual features.
- Embed safety, integrity, and fault detection into Vision SLAM architecture.
Your profile
Essential experience
- 5+ years of experience in VSLAM, VIO, visual state estimation, or related domains for robotics/autonomous systems, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Strong C++ skills, with good Python capability for prototyping, testing, tooling and data analysis.
- Expert grasp of multi-view geometry, factor-graph optimisation, visual-inertial fusion, and uncertainty modelling.
- Good knowledge and experience of DNN models for vision processing
- Track record of working with Vision SLAM for real-time, safety-relevant systems.
- Proven experience of Vision SLAM that performs in industrial or GNSS-challenged environments.
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable experience
- Experience within autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, robotics or other mission-critical infrastructure domains.
- Familiarity with deep-learning-based features and learned correspondence (SuperPoint, R2D2, LightGlue, etc.).
- Strong publication record, open-source contributions, or recognised technical work in Vision SLAM or related fields.
What we offer
- The opportunity to join a business at an early yet pivotal stage of its growth journey in a key role shaping the future of autonomous navigation.
- A collaborative and innovative Engineering culture, working alongside bright and ambitious colleagues.
- A competitive package including base salary, private medical and dental insurance, a healthcare cash plan, employer pension contribution matching and other performance-based incentives.
