Main purpose of role
 
Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA) is a membership-led organisation and its primary purpose is as the recognised representative of students to the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), including UHI Perth. To do this effectively, it is crucial that the student voice of our members is strong and heard by the institutions.
 
The main purpose of this role is to facilitate and enhance student engagement at the UHI Perth Campus. This will be done through communication with students, elected Student Officers, college staff, HISA colleagues and external stakeholders to further the improvement of the student experience.   
 
As the face of the Students’ Association at the local partner, the postholder is required to be primarily based at the Perth campus to undertake these duties. They will be a point of contact for students’ association activities at the local Academic Partner, which is supported by colleagues elsewhere in the HISA team at other locations.
 
Key responsibilities
 
  1. Be the first point of contact for students at the Academic Partner, encouraging them to get involved in the Students’ Association and extra-curricular activity. 
  2. Supporting and creating the in-person events. 
  3. As directed by the Director of Student Engagement and Representation, support the following activities (this list is not exhaustive): 
  4. Support to the elected Student Officers, including delivery of their manifestos and priorities. 
  5. Engaging students in the work of HISA, including Welcome and induction activities, and support to local clubs, societies and activities. 
  6. The activities, communications and running of the Student Voice Representative (SVR) system, supporting students to shape their learning and wider student experience. 
  7. The Student Voice Representatives (SVR) training and support. 
  8. Developing wider approaches to student engagement in partnership with the colleges, including for our elections and feedback on learning. 
  9. Develop relationships with key members of staff within the colleges and key external stakeholders. 
  10. Work collaboratively with other HISA staff members as and when required for the development of wider student engagement work across UHI. 
  11. Provide advice and guidance to students where appropriate, including signposting to HISA, college and external services. 
  12. Undertake key administrative duties such as managing shared email inboxes, tracking finances and other relevant records. 
 
General
 
The exact responsibilities will change from time to time and the postholder is required to undertake any additional duties are deemed appropriate to the role.

  5. Work co-operatively with other Association staff and Student Officers as appropriate, as well as relevant organisations. 
  6. Adhere to the highest standards, especially of customer service and safety. 
  7. Undertake necessary training and development and to attend all meetings as requested. 
  8. Positively contribute to the organisation’s ethical and environmental ethos.
  9. It may be necessary for the postholder to work out of hours on occasion e.g. to cover events and extended office opening hours. A system of time off in lieu will operate to cover this.
  10. Occasional travel between campuses might be expected. 

This post undertakes regulated work with children and Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership is required. A check will be made against the list of those barred from working with children and protected adults.
