Liskeard Library

Liskeard Library is a thriving, rapidly developing 21st century library, cultural and community hub in the heart of Liskeard. It provides a library service, cultural opportunities and spaces supporting people to learn, grow and develop skills in SE Cornwall. The library is developing a range of offers including events, workshops, and space hire. It is also the principal home for Real Ideas Pathways’ team, who offer support directly to individuals.

Job Purpose

The Volunteer Coordinator is a key member of the Real Ideas Pathways team, responsible for building and sustaining a thriving volunteer programme at Liskeard Library. This role leads on the recruitment, induction, training and day-to-day management of volunteers, ensuring they are well-supported and empowered to make a meaningful contribution to the library and the wider community.

At Liskeard Library, volunteers already help us with a range of things. These vary from helping with the day to day running of the library such as shelving and processing book deliveries, through to helping in the café and kitchen and supporting our events. A key part of this role will be to develop and coordinate an engaging and varied programme of volunteer-led activities, events and sessions throughout the week that inspire our visitors, engage children and young people, bring people together and reflect the diversity of our community. The Volunteer Coordinator will champion the value of volunteering within Real Ideas and work collaboratively across the Pathways team to ensure volunteers are integrated effectively into library life.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment & Management

  • Lead on the recruitment of volunteers, including advertising opportunities, responding to enquiries, and managing the application and selection process.
  • Carry out inductions and onboarding for all new volunteers, ensuring they have the information, training and support needed to carry out their roles effectively.
  •  Maintain accurate records of volunteer details, availability, activity and hours using Real Ideas systems.
  • Provide ongoing support, supervision and recognition for volunteers, acting as their primary point of contact.
  •  Monitor volunteer wellbeing and address any issues or concerns in a timely and sensitive manner, escalating where appropriate.
  •  Ensure all volunteers are appropriately DBS checked and compliant with relevant safeguarding, data protection and health & safety policies.


Programme Development & Coordination

  • Design and coordinate a diverse, inclusive and engaging programme of volunteer-led activities, workshops, events and sessions running throughout the week at Liskeard Library.
  • Work with volunteers to identify their skills and interests and match them with appropriate activity and facilitation opportunities.
  •  Ensure the volunteer activity programme is promoted effectively to library visitors and the wider community.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and impact of volunteer-led activities, gathering feedback and making improvements.
  • Support volunteers to plan and deliver sessions, providing resources, guidance and facilitation assistance as needed.
  •  Collaborate with the wider Pathways team to align the volunteer programme with the library's overall events and activities calendar.

General & Real Ideas Wide

  • Work effectively with Shift Supervisors and the wider Real Ideas Pathways team, contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the library.
  • Represent Real Ideas positively, understanding and communicating coherently about Real Ideas products and programmes.

Qualifications
Experience of working with volunteers or in a coordination/organisational role (relevant qualification desirable, not essential)
Level 2 (or equivalent) Numeracy & Literacy
Food Hygiene or Food Handling qualification (desirable not essential as training will be provided)
