About the Communities, Practice & Participation Programme
Modern Art Oxford’s Communities Practice & Participation (CPP) programme invites people of all ages, abilities, and interests to engage with and participate in contemporary art. The programme is shaped by three core areas of programming, Make Play (early years), Young Creatives (young people 16-21) and After Hours (an evening programme for adult learners). Additionally, the CPP team curate exhibitions in Modern Art Oxford’s Ground Floor Gallery and Upper Galleries to present new projects and commissions with a participatory focus. Central to this is our dedicated Studio, a welcoming creative space offering a flexible, open environment exploring the themes of our exhibition programme through creative, curatorial, and practice-based inquiry.
We prioritise and value our long-term partnerships across Oxfordshire with charities and community groups, which ensure that our projects are developed and co-curated across the county with individuals who may otherwise not know of our free opportunities. We are outwardly interested in developing new collaborations, which speak to interdisciplinarity, celebrating difference, and forging strong communities of practice with diverse, local communities. The CPP programme is planned and delivered by a Head of Department, Curator, Producers, Programme manager and coordinator, who work collaboratively across all areas of the programme, and share an interest and commitment to practice-based approaches and engaging communities with contemporary art
