About the role 

  • Design and build features for our Salesforce AppExchange products, our Azure hosted backend services, and our Home Assistant–based product, including AI powered capabilities. 
  • Work primarily with Salesforce (Apex, LWC/React), C# and Python running on Azure, and integration layers using REST APIs and SQL. 
  • Apply architecture first thinking: participate in modelling and design discussions and create simple architecture artefacts before we start coding. 
  • Write clean, test-driven, maintainable code; refactor and debug existing codebases. 
  • Use AI tools (e.g. Copilot/LLMs) as a normal part of design, implementation, and testing. 
  • Collaborate in code reviews, planning, and knowledge sharing with a small, experienced engineering team. 


Location & working pattern 

  • Central Reading office, hybrid. 
  • At least 3 days per week in the office working closely with the team. 
 

Responsibilities 

  • Implement features and fixes across Salesforce, Azure services, and our Home Assistant–based product, following test-driven development wherever practical. 
  • Contribute to and sometimes lead small design/architecture spikes, documenting outcomes clearly. 
  • Integrate with internal and external APIs and contribute to data modelling sessions where needed. 
  • Help maintain CI pipelines, automated tests, and quality gates. 
  • Work with product and support to understand real customer problems and shape pragmatic solutions. 
 

Requirements (mid-level) 

  • Around 3–5 years of professional software development in a team environment. 
  • Strong in at least one of: C#, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript, plus solid SQL fundamentals. 
  • Practical experience building or operating services on Azure (for example App Service, Functions, Azure SQL, Storage, Service Bus, or similar). 

Either: 
  • Existing Salesforce (Apex, LWC/React) experience, or 
  • Strong evidence you can pick it up quickly; we will invest in your Salesforce ramp up and this will become a big part of your work. 

  • Genuine interest in AI and experience using AI tools to assist with coding, testing, or design. 
  • Comfortable with automated testing, Git, pull requests, and working in an Agile team. 
  • Excellent debugging skills, high attention to detail, and clear communication. 
  • Eligible to work fulltime in the UK and able to commute to central Reading at least 3 days per week. 
 

Nice to have

  • Hands-on Salesforce development (Apex, LWC/React) in production apps. 
  • Hands-on experience with Azure in production: deploying apps, configuring resources, and understanding cost and monitoring. 
  • Experience with microservice or event-driven architectures on Azure (e.g. Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid). 
  • Home Assistant experience: building automations, custom integrations, or addons, especially where you’ve treated it like a “real” software platform. 
  • Evidence of being an IT hobbyist: side projects, opensource, home lab, or automation setups.
