We are seeking two vigilant, highly professional Security & Operations Officers to join our dynamic Front of House team. They will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of premises, staff, and visitors while maintaining high standards of customer service. This role blends physical security, site patrols, and critical day-to-day operations.
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The Security & Venue Support Officer plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, secure, comfortable, and welcoming environment for all visitors, staff, artists, and contractors at the Belgrade Theatre. Reporting to the Duty Management team, the postholder will support the day-to-day safety and operational running of the venue through regular patrols, monitoring of public areas, responding to incidents, and supporting Front of House operations.
The role requires a professional, approachable, and proactive individual who can confidently engage with the public while maintaining high standards of vigilance, customer service, and security awareness. The postholder will work collaboratively with internal teams, external security providers, BID Street Patrol, emergency services, and other partners to ensure the Theatre remains a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in a variety of situations.
Key Objectives
- Maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across the Belgrade Theatre premises.
- Deliver excellent customer service to all visitors, audiences, staff, and contractors.
- Conduct regular venue patrols and monitor access and egress points.
- Support Duty Managers and Front of House teams during performances, events, incidents, disruptions, and evacuations.
- Ensure accurate completion of security logs, records, and incident reporting documentation.
- Support operational tasks including visitor assistance, porter duties, and venue set-ups where required.
- Work collaboratively with external security providers, BID Street Patrol, and Police services.
Ensure compliance with all Theatre policies, procedures, safeguarding responsibilities, and GDPR requirements.

Responsibilities
Security & Venue Operations
- Provide excellent customer service at all times, maintaining a professional, approachable, and friendly manner.
- Conduct regular patrols of the Theatre premises, including foyers, public areas, service yards, and designated external areas.
- Monitor and control access and egress points as required.
- Respond appropriately to incidents within the venue, escalating concerns in line with Belgrade Theatre procedures.
- Support crowd management and assist during disruptions, emergency situations, and evacuations when required.
- Conduct security searches where requested and follow HOT procedures in relation to unattended items.
- Identify and report anti-social behaviour in line with company reporting procedures.
- Monitor CCTV systems when required and ensure compliance with GDPR and Theatre policies regarding requests for footage.
- Work closely with contracted security companies, BID Street Patrol, and Police services where required.
- Assist with the creation, control, and distribution of staff and visitor access cards.
- Support the management of parking permits within the Theatre service yard.
Front of House & Visitor Support
- Act as a point of contact and information resource for visitors and members of the public.
- Assist and escort visitors, artists, contractors, and guests to locations within the Theatre where required.
- Support Duty Managers and Front of House teams during performances, events, and busy operational periods.
- Maintain accurate duty logs, incident records, signing-in documentation, and security records at all times.
Operational Support & Porter Duties
- Undertake porter duties when required, including room set-ups and breakdowns.
- Assist with internal deliveries, mail distribution, parcels, and departmental deliveries across the building.
- Provide practical operational support to Duty Managers and Front of House teams as required.
General
- Work at all times within the Theatre’s policies, including but not limited to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Dignity at Work, Environmental, Health and Safety and Code of Conduct for Staff.
- Develop a strong understanding of the Belgrade Theatre brand and act as an ambassador for the Theatre at all times.
- Work in line with the Belgrade’s core values of inclusion, collaboration, evolution and authenticity.
Undertake any other duties which are consistent with the function and seniority of the role including:
- attending staff meetings and training courses
- supporting guest nights and special events
- assisting wider operational teams where required

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Essential:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills and experience working with the public.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Ability to use initiative and work independently.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Professional and approachable manner.
- Willingness to undertake a DBS check.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and longer shifts where required.
Desirable:
- Previous experience within a security, venue, hospitality, visitor services, or customer-facing environment.
- Experience working within theatres, entertainment venues, or public event spaces.
- Knowledge of crowd management and venue safety procedures.
- Experience monitoring CCTV systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- Valid SIA Security Licence.
- Training Provided:
- Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) Training.
- Safeguarding Level 1.
- First Aid at Work Qualification.
Other Information
We are aligned with the UK Theatre/BECTU Agreement
(formerly TMA)/BECTU (Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union) Agreement and its Staff Handbook outlines the terms on sick pay, maternity leave and pay, paternity leave and pay, grievance and discipline and other relevant staff matters.
On appointment the successful candidate must be able to provide the correct documents as proof of their right to work in the UK.
The candidate’s contract of employment with the Belgrade Theatre does not come into force until the first day of work.
Staff are entitled to tickets for shows at the Belgrade Theatre, subject to particular conditions and a 10% discount at the Theatre’s Café and Bars.
Hours Of Work
The roles will cover 24 hours per week, working 8 hours each scheduled shift between the hours of 8am and 8pm, Monday through Saturday. Actual working hours to be scheduled as per the weekly rota. Occasional Sunday work may be offered which would be considered as overtime.
Pension:
Auto-enrolment, with Belgrade currently making 3% employer contributions which will rise in line with legal requirements. The Theatre’s appointed pension provider is NEST. Further details are available.
Holidays:
25 Days Pro Rata with hours worked.
