Community Researchers – Summer 2026 (including Research Team Leader)

Are you curious about your community and what matters to people where you live?

Do you enjoy talking to people, listening to their experiences, and helping make change happen locally?

If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Gloucestershire Gateway Trust (GGT) is recruiting a team of Community Researchers to take part in our Summer Community Research Programme 2026 – a paid opportunity to work with local residents and help shape decisions, services and investment across Gloucester.

About the role

Community Researchers play a vital role in giving people a voice. Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll be out in neighbourhoods and community spaces across Gloucester, talking with residents and helping gather views, ideas and lived experiences.

In 2026, our research will focus on food – including access to food, food poverty, pantries and community meals, food skills, cultures and traditions, and how local food networks are working for different communities.

You’ll receive full training and ongoing support, and no previous research experience is needed.

We are recruiting:

  • 8 Community Researchers
  • 1 Research Team Leader (paid at an enhanced rate), who will help coordinate and support the team alongside undertaking their own research activity

What you’ll be doing

  • Talking with local people through one-to-one conversations, small group discussions and community activities
  • Helping gather community views in an inclusive, respectful and welcoming way
  • Working as part of a team to share learning and reflect on what you’re hearing
  • Contributing to a piece of research that will influence real decisions and action in Gloucester

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need any formal qualifications or research background. We’re looking for people who:

  • Are interested in their community and local issues
  • Feel comfortable chatting with people and listening well
  • Are reliable and able to work as part of a team
  • Are keen to learn new skills and be part of a positive, values-led project
  • An interest in food or community issues is helpful, but not essential.

For the Research Team Leader role, we’re particularly interested in people who have experience supporting others, coordinating activity, or helping groups work well together (paid or unpaid).

Hours, pay and location

  • £13.45 per hour (Real Living Wage), with an enhanced rate for the Research Team Leader
  • 20 hours per week during July and August 2026
  • Some flexibility in how hours are worked but you must be available for training during the weeks commencing 29 June and 6 July
  • Work will take place in community venues and neighbourhood spaces across Gloucester
