Community Artist in Residence

Gloucestershire Gateway Trust & Together Gloucester

We are excited to invite applications for two Community Artists in Residence to work with children, young people and families across Gloucester’s seven Children and Family Centres.

This is a unique opportunity for creative practitioners who believe everyone has a right to culture and creativity. Working closely with local communities, you will listen, learn and co‑create inspiring artistic activity that reflects what matters to families and neighbourhoods – helping to build confidence, connection and wellbeing through creativity.

We use the term artist in its broadest sense. You might be a visual artist, performer, storyteller, digital creative, craft practitioner or work across several disciplines. What matters most is your ability to work collaboratively, sensitively and imaginatively with diverse communities, and to place local people at the heart of what you create together.

The roles are part‑time, freelance (1.5 days per week) for one year, with a £7,500 fee plus a materials budget of approximately £2,500. The work is flexible and community‑based, with activity delivered both inside Children and Family Centres and in nearby neighbourhood spaces.

Who we’re looking for

We’re keen to hear from creative practitioners who:

  • Have experience of delivering creative activity in community or family‑focused settings
  • Enjoy working with children, parents and intergenerational groups
  • Take a community‑first, inclusive and strengths‑based approach
  • Are curious, adaptable and confident working across different neighbourhoods
  • Live in, or have strong connections to, Gloucestershire
