FixMyCar is currently working hard to grow the digitalisation of the UK aftermarket in the Automotive sector, by driving growth for Garages through smarter tools to increase efficiency and meet evolving consumer behaviour. 

With an exciting mission ahead, we are looking for a proactive Mid-Level NodeJS Engineer to build and evolve scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, working closely across our small team to implement features that truly make an impact to our platform and product. The ideal candidate will love problem‑solving, learning new tech, and ensuring high code quality standards at all times. In this hands‑on role, they will flourish in an Agile environment and enjoy continuously improving how systems are built, deployed, and scaled.  They are a key role in how FixMyCar’s software applications are developed and maintained. 

Key Responsibilities

Implementation & Integration: 

  • Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript. 
  • Implement features based on product requirements and technical specifications. 
  • Ensure smooth integration with existing systems and APIs. 
  • Contribute to performance optimization, scalability, and security improvements. 

Code Quality & Collaboration: 
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. 
  • Participate in code reviews and follow established best practices. 
  • Collaborate with team members to improve development workflows and standards. 
  • Contribute to testing efforts, including unit and integration tests. 

Technical Growth & Learning: 

  • Continuously expand knowledge of Node.js, backend architecture, and related technologies. 
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices. 
  • Learn and apply new tools and frameworks as needed. 
 
Problem-Solving: 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in development and production environments. 
  • Assist in debugging and improving existing systems. 
  • Work with senior engineers to solve moderately complex technical challenges. 

Project Contribution: 

  • Contribute to sprint planning, task estimation, and delivery. 
  • Break down tasks into manageable units with guidance from senior team members. 
  • Ensure timely delivery of assigned work. 

Infrastructure & DevOps Exposure: 

  • Work with containerized applications and environments (e.g., Kubernetes). 
  • Assist in maintaining Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions). 
  • Support deployment processes and basic cloud infrastructure tasks. 
  • Collaborate with DevOps or senior engineers on infrastructure improvements. 

Skills and Competencies (Essential)

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in backend or full-stack development with TypeScript/Node.js 
  • Solid proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, and backend development principles 
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL 
  • Familiarity with modern frameworks (e.g., Next.js is a plus) 
  • Experience with Git and Agile development methodologies 
  • Experience with AWS cloud service
  • Exposure to modern infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) systems (e.g., GitHub Actions) 
  • Understanding of testing (unit and integration)
  • Agile/ Scrum Experience
