The Company
Cornish Metals is an AIM listed Company working towards re-opening the 100% owned and fully permitted South Crofty underground tin mine in Pool, Cornwall.  

In March 2025, we raised £57.4 million, anchored by the UK’s National Wealth Fund and Vision Blue Resources to advance South Crofty towards tin production once again.  Tin is essential for electronics, renewable energy, and modern technology and demand is projected to increase by 30% in the next decade.

Role requirements
We are seeking an HR Officer to support the HR Manager in delivering an efficient, professional and compliant HR service across the business. This role will take responsibility for managing day to day recruitment activity and supporting hiring managers through the recruitment and onboarding process, while also contributing to the core HR administration and employee lifecycle activities. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring a positive candidate and employee experience.

The successful candidate will be professional and approachable, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business. They will demonstrate strong organisational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities and a high level of discretion when handling confidential information. A proactive attitude is essential, along with the confidence to take ownership of tasks while knowing when to seek guidance.

Principle responsibilities/role tasks
Specific duties as part of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:-

General HR Administration
  • Act as the first point of contact for HR queries from employees, escalating where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date employee records and HR systems.
  • Draft HR documentation, such as contracts, letters and forms. 
  • Manage new starter, induction and leaver processes. 
  • Monitor absence, sickness, holidays and other leave. 
  • Support the preparation of HR reports and data. 

Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Coordinate and manage recruitment campaigns from approval to offer stage.
  • Work with hiring managers to clarify role requirements and draft job descriptions.
  • Post job advertisements and manage applications across platforms.
  • Screen CV’s and conduct initial candidate screening where appropriate.
  • Arrange and coordinate interviews ensuring a smooth candidate experience.
  • Support hiring managers during the selection process.
  • Prepare and issue offer documentation and contracts. 
  • Ensure all pre-employment checks and onboarding documentation are completed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve recruitment processes and candidate experience.

Payroll & Benefits 
  • Support the payroll process by collating checking relevant data.
  • Support administration of pensions and employee benefits.
  • Respond to routine payroll and benefits queries from employees.

Employee Engagement & Wellbeing
  • Support employee engagement activities and well-being initiatives.
  • Assist with HR projects, events and internal communications.
  • Support Occupational Health requirements.

Compliance and policies 
  • Ensure HR practices are in line with Company policy and UK employment legislation.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of employee and Company information.
  • Support maintenance of occupational health records and compliance. 

As the Company’s activity levels expand and operations become the primary focus of the business, further responsibilities will evolve over time.

Working Environment 
This is an on-site role based in an office, providing HR support across construction and mining activities.  Regular attendance at the South Crofty mine site during standard business hours is required.  The role will also involve movement within the site for meetings, training and project related activities.

The role will report to the HR Manager, but there will be frequent interaction with employees at all levels.

External relationships will include suppliers, local communities and external contractors.

Skills and experience
The key skills and experience which are expected for this role are:

Essential
  • Previous experience in an HR role (assistant or officer level).
  • Experience of supporting or coordinating recruitment processes.
  • Good knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build relationships across the business.
  • Proactive and reliable with a willingness to take ownership.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) etc.

Desirable
  • CIPD Level 5 (or working towards).
  • Experience of working in a company in the extractive, construction or industrial sectors.
  • Experience using HR systems and applicant tracking systems.
